Tarabuco on Sunday is a busy, large, local market where area residents come to buy, sell, barter, and trade ideas. There is a "food court" area if you become hungry. Most of the vendors are authentic,...  more »

A Tarabuco can go on excursions ($40bs CA) or taking buses (one up to close to $1, 5bs bus terminal and a range to Tarabuco $10bs) trip is approximately 1, 5 hours. The village of Tarabuco itself does not have much to offer more than its market, but equally worthwhile. Tapestries and textiles are incredible, a sample of their culture!

We must reach Tarabuco, a little more than one hour of journey away, Sunday you can visit the handicraft market, very good prices, especially in garments of alpaca. Also share cultural traditions attached with its people.

Almost everything you could ever need or want in one place

The mercado campesino is really worth a visit. It is definitely the better market than the mercado central. The variety of vegetables, fruits, fresh slaughtered meat, bloody chicken feet and fruit salads and the corresponding juices are amazing! For lunch there is a large variety of food stands where many (only) locals eat. The soup e.g. costs only three Bolivianos (approx 0.50 US$). Nearby you can find another market with dried Llama embryos offered to buy as a gift for the Pachamama.

It is big and has all kinds of products. There is sale of food, fresh and dried food. Out of the market and its surroundings, also sold a variety of products.

Where to stay in Sucre

With building restrictions in place for decades, the city of Sucre has developed a little differently than most other cities on the continent. However, the touristic appeal of Sucre has driven up demand for accommodations--now slotted in old, colonial-era buildings rather than new-build high-rises. This development ethos has worked well, with lodgings in Sucre's center among the most comfortable and characterful in the country. Exclusive options cluster around the town's prettiest plazas, with grand rooms and fine-dining restaurants. Budget-minded visitors should explore the range of posadas (guesthouses), set in modest formerly residential buildings on the town's side streets.
