Samaipata/Santa Cruz Road, Santa Cruz

(3.3/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
Enjoy the remarkable scenery as you drive along Samaipata/Santa Cruz Road. The old road connecting the ruins at Samaipata with the city of Santa Cruz spans 120 km (75 mi), offering memorable views and some points of interest to add to your trip. Make stops along the way, including a colossal red rock jutting out from the landscape and a serene crater lake near the rim of a volcano. Drive carefully--the poorly maintained road can be dicey, especially after heavy rainfalls. Use our Santa Cruz trip itinerary planner to arrange your visit to Samaipata/Santa Cruz Road and other attractions in Santa Cruz.

  • The archaeological site of Samaipata exposes a sequence of occupation (chane, Inca and Spanish) which are a clear sign of the succession of historical and cultural changes of the place. Considered the world's largest petroglyph, it has footbridges that facilitate travel. Count with a guide facilitates widely the interpretation of the place, because the cosmology chane is difference of the rest of the cultures American and is of more difficult interpretation. To this is sum that the wear product of the time has erased at least partially some figures. The place has tables and chairs to eat and a bar with food and drinks. An ideal complement is a visit to the Archaeological Museum of the town of Samaipata, distant eight kilometers from the archaeological, very well organized site with excellent maintenance. The peoples is also very picturesque and worth a tour. There are several places to drink or eat something with affordable prices.
