Iglesias de la Chiquitania, Santa Cruz

History Museum
Take in the unusual architecture and the historical heft of Iglesias de la Chiquitania, one of the few Jesuit churches that survived the Spanish Empire's abolishment of the missionaries. The church, established back in 1690, has ties to the education of the indigenous tribes that inhabited the area before its inauguration. Now refurbished to its original style, the structure's design differs from other surviving (mostly timber) Jesuit churches, inspired by an Argentinian-Paraguayan architectural style made from stone. Visit the onsite museum to learn more about the project and listen to original music compositions created by the inhabitants of the area. • San Jabvier can become the link to the other peoples of the circuit of Jesuit churches. Re-fuel for tourists in the Department of Santa Cruz.

  • It is a cute circuit for touring. Churches and its wooden facade works are attractions to see. In conception, there is a workshop of restoration of religious pieces of all kinds and if they leave them to visit it is very interesting to see how they perform the work. There is a time of the year to that area of the Chiquitania be filled with multiple colored butterflies, some of high value for collectors.

  • History of exploitation of Indians for alleged evangelizers. Beautiful, but embarrassing.
