Iglesias de la Chiquitania, Santa Cruz

(4.7/5 based on 100+ reviews on the web)
Take in the unusual architecture and the historical heft of Iglesias de la Chiquitania, one of the few Jesuit churches that survived the Spanish Empire's abolishment of the missionaries. The church, established back in 1690, has ties to the education of the indigenous tribes that inhabited the area before its inauguration. Now refurbished to its original style, the structure's design differs from other surviving (mostly timber) Jesuit churches, inspired by an Argentinian-Paraguayan architectural style made from stone. Visit the onsite museum to learn more about the project and listen to original music compositions created by the inhabitants of the area. • Churches of the Chiquitania, us back to the colonial period in South America, specifically to the arrival of Spanish settlers to the eastern lands of what is now Santa Cruz de la Sierra in Bolivia. They are 7 churches (officially recognized) and each is worth their time to be seen and explored. Each one is constructed in a particular way and its beauty is well preserved by the inhabitants of each city. The main recommendation is to save a little on the hosting, not to stay in major cities, but in smaller towns. Sunrises and sunsets are unbelievable. The travel is deserves a minimum of 5 days and if can participate of them trades religious, is a good opportunity of appreciate the acoustic of the churches main.

  • The churches of the Chiquitania have been reconstructed with great care, an important investment of origin European, and are a shows fantastic of the capacity of work of them Jesuit in conditions very adverse. Beautiful from it aesthetic, imposing from it building, full of symbolism, represent a visit must for who try to know the last of America colonial. Two aspects to highlight, is essential for its understanding to have a guide explaining many aspects that are imperceptible to the common eye and the beauty of the natural setting of the villages that are located.
