Iglesias de la Chiquitania, Santa Cruz

History Museum Church
Take in the unusual architecture and the historical heft of Iglesias de la Chiquitania, one of the few Jesuit churches that survived the Spanish Empire's abolishment of the missionaries. The church, established back in 1690, has ties to the education of the indigenous tribes that inhabited the area before its inauguration. Now refurbished to its original style, the structure's design differs from other surviving (mostly timber) Jesuit churches, inspired by an Argentinian-Paraguayan architectural style made from stone. Visit the onsite museum to learn more about the project and listen to original music compositions created by the inhabitants of the area.
