Iglesias de la Chiquitania, Santa Cruz
(4.6/5 based on 90+ reviews on the web)
Take in the unusual architecture and the historical heft of Iglesias de la Chiquitania, one of the few Jesuit churches that survived the Spanish Empire's abolishment of the missionaries. The church, established back in 1690, has ties to the education of the indigenous tribes that inhabited the area before its inauguration. Now refurbished to its original style, the structure's design differs from other surviving (mostly timber) Jesuit churches, inspired by an Argentinian-Paraguayan architectural style made from stone. Visit the onsite museum to learn more about the project and listen to original music compositions created by the inhabitants of the area. • If you have the chance to do it, really last Jesuit churches with its beautiful and a great story, you can also travel through the interior of the region see as they live in their villages and people. If you are coming in August seems to me the time there is the festival of Baroque music that actually occurs in a season by the churches of Jesuits in the region and where different national and international orchestras where interpret these scores were found in a church is present. Nice trip

  • Only visited two of the Jesuit missions: San Javier and Concepción. Highly recommended for the love and care that have preserved them. The Museum's conception of gives a very faithful idea of the history of the missions. If it gives you time, make a visit of more time, it is worth
