  • The Museum and the Church work together virtually, you pay an entry only, something around 25 bolivianos, 15 more to photograph. The Church is of 1692, all in gold, was built for the rich. Indigenous people and the surrounding countryside could not enter. The main altarpiece was done piece by piece (7peças), and then was joined. The ceiling has squares with flowers, a picture with the creation of the world, the deluge and expulsion of Adam and Eve. There were separate religious Confessionals and to the faithful. Is a cloistered convent. At the entrance of the Museum there is the room where the daughters of rich were delivered to be cloistered, depressing story. When delivering the daughters gave a dowry in money or gold to the Church. We visited some small chapels which were richly ornamented, and individual gold, depending on the wealth of the father of the novice. In the back of the Church has a graveyard, all in wood, where they buried the nun, the family received neither the body to ensure. Today only 5 nuns inhabit the convent.

  • I get somewhat bored by the repetitive nature of colonial religious art and thus was a little skeptical of visiting this place down the hill but my expectations were greatly exceeded. During the 2+ ho...  more »
  • The Church belongs to a Carmelite convent founded in the 1600's and more. The Museum keeps a beautiful collection of paintings and religious objects. He also narrates the life of Santa Teresa and the sisters who lived there... It is a guided tour with an approximate duration of 2 hours and a half... they are friendly, and the price of the ticket is very economical, around 30 Bolivians...

Where to stay in Potosi

Because of protection from overdevelopment by UNESCO, you won't find many high-rise, newly built hotels within Potosi's city limits. Instead, visitors can choose from a good selection of colonial-era buildings housing charming hotels and welcoming guesthouses. Generally speaking, look to the south end of the center for more budget-friendly options, with little guesthouses located on residential side streets. By contrast, the more spacious area surrounding the train station has the majority of the grander hotels, set on impressive boulevards and overlooking central plazas.
