Sajama National Park, Oruro

4.6
#2 of 8 in Things to do in Oruro
Sajama National Park highlights the outback of Bolivia. Make the village your base camp, and go on a variety of adventures to discover indigenous plants, animals, natural formations, and ancient burial structures. The park was established to protect the Quenue trees, which are used to produce coal. Climb up the Nevado Sajama and reach the highest point of Bolivia, treat achy muscles to some relaxing warm water and the park’s hot springs, and hike around the park to see old ruined and abandoned churches and homes. It is sure that the area is very remote, should not expect an incredible comfort. But in feather duvets are warm, family dealing with this hostal is anything to be helpful, useful (in addition to the smile). For those that happy, this address is for you!

Unlike many other backpackers (is not conventional tourists because they do not go so far here), we have moderately enjoyed Sajama. Too dead to our eyes and too dusty. The entrance is very excessive (100B / pers.) and when we were there, the lagoon was dry. But beware, the Park still has beautiful assets: superb volcanoes (Sajama, Parinacota, Pomerape, Chuani,...), lamas to loss of view, geysers, hot springs and especially tranquility away from the popping and polluted La Paz.
