Valle de la Luna, La Paz

3.9
#1 of 7 in Nature in La Paz
Geologic Formation Nature / Park
Seek adventure in a landscape of jagged rock spires at Valle de la Luna, located just minutes from La Paz. Literally translated from Spanish as the "Valley of the Moon," the landscape was created by gradual erosion by wind and water. You can see why the bizarre clay formations have always drawn comparisons to the otherworldly as you wander through the field of spires and climb up staircases carved into the rock. Note the many colors of the landscape, ranging from sandy brown to red and violet, caused by the variety of minerals in the rock. Take a look at our La Paz vacation planner to schedule your visit to Valle de la Luna and learn about what else to see and do during your holiday.

  • It's a nice 40minute hike. No need to book a tour. A minibus from Iglesias San Francisco will take you in front of the entrance and back.  more »
  • Nice attraction for about 1hr, only 30BO to get in but don't expect vastness and wilderness as still very near to La Paz...  more »

  • The Moon-Valley is a fun place to visit if you have time and it's included in a tour, but I would not pay a taxi to get there only to see it.
  • Really not worth it, takes an age to get there by local bus and then you can walk round the whole place is less than an hour. And this was walking slowly. If you happen to be passing this place pop in, it is quite nice. But don't make a trip just to see this.
  • Cuz its a very nice and quiet place and the view it's nice
  • Nice place for a walk. Usually city tours in La Paz takes you there. Worth it.
  • It's a good walk, you can get a few good views but if you need to skip it because you don't have enough time, do it. (:
