Valle de la Luna, La Paz
(3.6/5 based on 1,400+ reviews on the web)
Seek adventure in a landscape of jagged rock spires at Valle de la Luna, located just minutes from La Paz. Literally translated from Spanish as the "Valley of the Moon," the landscape was created by gradual erosion by wind and water. You can see why the bizarre clay formations have always drawn comparisons to the otherworldly as you wander through the field of spires and climb up staircases carved into the rock. Note the many colors of the landscape, ranging from sandy brown to red and violet, caused by the variety of minerals in the rock. Take a look at our La Paz vacation planner to schedule your visit to Valle de la Luna and learn about what else to see and do during your holiday.

  • Is a small desert area on the South side of La Paz in which curious rock formations. There are several abysses in place, then it is necessary to walk very carefully. The whole time you hear noises of stones giving off and falling down in the depths, which shows that the site is in constant transformation. There are beautiful views to take pictures, but the site itself is not so unmissable, looks more like a small amusement park for tourists. There is a Museum and a welcome water filter at the end of the tour. Usually included in tours to Chacaltaya glacier.

  • Honestly, if it wasn't sold with the ascent to Chacaltaya I wouldn't. Is the type of script that is kinda cool, but it makes no difference mta in your life if you don't.

  • I note that most reviewers use the term "interesting", which indicates "waste of time". It is indeed a dry lunar landscape, surrounded by the city's housing. Visit 10 minutes if you must.
