Experience an essential part of La Paz history at Catedral Basilica Menor de Nuestra Senora de la Paz, a Roman Catholic cathedral whose original construction dates back to the 17th century. Following a decision in the early 19th century to demolish the original and start again, construction began in 1835 on architect Manuel Sanahuja's neoclassical structure with Baroque elements. It took a full 90 years for the cathedral to open, and even then it remained incomplete until Pope John Paul II's visit in 1989--a full 150 years after its initial construction. Head to the interior to admire the many ornate chadeliers and intricately carved altar. • The Cathedral of La Paz is located in the square Murilo, in central city, alongside the Legislative and Government palaces facing the square. The old cathedral is 17TH century and on its ruins was rebuilt in the mid-19th century, but only completed in the 20th century. It has two towers. and marble-lined interior. Your predominant style is Neoclassical. Its official name is the Metropolitan Cathedral Nuestra Señora de La Paz, also known as Cathedral Murillo. Has imposing façade, with thick walls and beautiful stained glass Windows. It is open from Monday to Friday in the afternoon, and in the morning on Saturdays and Sundays. Free entry. Is well preserved and is much frequented.

  • Important as the Metropolitan Cathedral. Even without the Baroque splendor of the Church of San Francisco, this largely neoclassical style Temple impresses and pleasing to the eyes. During the weekdays is pleasantly quiet, with very little people (which to me is a quality for a place). Must-visit for sure.
