Explore Inca ruins and enjoy phenomenal scenery at Isla del Sol. A highlight of Lake Titicaca, this "Island of the Sun" is dotted with more than 80 ruins across its 70 sq km (27 sq mi) terrain. The rocky island has no roads or cars, so you'll have to hike or catch a boat to get from one side to the other. Whichever method you choose will be worth it, allowing you to discover the fascinating scenery the island has to offer. According to local legend, the sun was born here, and it definitely hasn't gone away yet. Bring water, food, and plenty of sunscreen before you set out on your journey. Also, make sure you carry some cash, as you'll have to pay local people a small toll for passing through their land. Make Isla del Sol a centerpiece of your Copacabana vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Copacabana vacation route planner.

  • Beautiful hike and grand views in and around Lake Titicaca, some with snow-capped mountains in the distance. Tickets by boat from Copacabana out for around 30 Bolivanos. On the island there are 3 stations that collect for the legal of the journey. For the South and North of 15 Bolivanos and then again 5 for the road down to the harbour. This info doesn't get you ticket purchase however and will feel pretty much to rip you off. This isn't about the money but principle, 3 x for a way to pay! Because let's face it a boat ride out and back about 3 hours for 30 Bolivanos, hiking said, also ca 3 hours 35 Bolivanos trail customs!

  • We spend an afternoon and a night at the Isla del ground to the South of the island, it was beautiful, a lot of stairs to climb with our backpacks we toil. What is regrettable is to see that children never stop to offer to carry our bags for cash and most tourists pay (nevertheless it must be unworthy at home as some big brand employment of children!) this is the only point negative I find otherwise sunset and Sunrise are beautiful!

  • What a wonderful place. To go to Isla del Sol is necessary take a boat out of Copacabana. I suggest you spend at least a day on the island to enjoy the beauty of the place, the sunrise and the sunset beautiful. Have several options of accommodation.
