Isla del Sol, Copacabana

(1,600+ reviews on the web)
Island
Explore Inca ruins and enjoy phenomenal scenery at Isla del Sol. A highlight of Lake Titicaca, this "Island of the Sun" is dotted with more than 80 ruins across its 70 sq km (27 sq mi) terrain. The rocky island has no roads or cars, so you'll have to hike or catch a boat to get from one side to the other. Whichever method you choose will be worth it, allowing you to discover the fascinating scenery the island has to offer. According to local legend, the sun was born here, and it definitely hasn't gone away yet. Bring water, food, and plenty of sunscreen before you set out on your journey. Also, make sure you carry some cash, as you'll have to pay local people a small toll for passing through their land. Make Isla del Sol a centerpiece of your Copacabana vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Copacabana vacation route planner.

  • How to go: from copacabana, take a boat that departs from the pier. Hours are 8:00, 10:30 hrs and the last 13:30. It takes one hour and a half to go to the South port and two hours to go to the northern port. The price is hard to alreredor of 20 bolivianos to the South and 25 for the North. If they are several rebate can be achieved. I went to the North since it is having more structure for the tourist. There are a couple of hostel, very simple (NO wait for WI FI, hot water and LUXURIES, not be forget that ES UNA ISLA), price round alreredor 25 bolivianos. There are a couple of restaurants where you can eat quinoa soup or vegetales(super recomendable), trout (also super recommended), omelete, or Hamburger, tend to close early, I recommend going out for dinner type 19/19:30 hs. Very nice beach, super trankilo, a tent can be mounted to sleep. The island has an incredible view, one of the best in all of bolivia. In addition to being on the beach you can hike from alrederor from 2 pm or go to the southern port walk carrying a time of 3 hours. In North port last boat leaves at 13: 30hs instead in port South leaves at 16:30 hs.
