Isla del Sol, Copacabana
(4/5 based on 1,500+ reviews on the web)
Explore Inca ruins and enjoy phenomenal scenery at Isla del Sol. A highlight of Lake Titicaca, this "Island of the Sun" is dotted with more than 80 ruins across its 70 sq km (27 sq mi) terrain. The rocky island has no roads or cars, so you'll have to hike or catch a boat to get from one side to the other. Whichever method you choose will be worth it, allowing you to discover the fascinating scenery the island has to offer. According to local legend, the sun was born here, and it definitely hasn't gone away yet. Bring water, food, and plenty of sunscreen before you set out on your journey. Also, make sure you carry some cash, as you'll have to pay local people a small toll for passing through their land. Make Isla del Sol a centerpiece of your Copacabana vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Copacabana vacation route planner.

  • Occurred to me it was interesting primarily because according to the legend, on this island came into existence the first Inca. We traveled from La Paz. Long chose between buying rounds and independent travel to the island, eventually bought a something-tickets for the bus Hop on Bolivia, which included a trip forward and back from La Paz to the city of Copacabana, as well as boat to Isla del Sol and back. The price for everything was funny 27 USD. Advantage travel with this firm was that bus tickets are not tied to any date, you can come to Kopakabanu, a day, then sail to Isla Del Sol, stay there, and return to La Paz via 2 or even 3 days. And you can all spend the trip in one day. In the end, after reading numerous reviews, chose to walk a few hours on the Beach, then sail to the island to stay there overnight, and the next evening back. In the end, the bottom line is-if you go to the island, there is a must-stop for the night. Met a lot of people who came there only for a day, and they were very unhappy, because could not really see anything. Total for a full exploration of the island need about 5-6 hours + fantastic sunset in the evening. Amazing place!
