Horca del Inca, Copacabana
(3.5/5 based on 85+ reviews on the web)
For insight into pre-Incan civilization head to Horca del Inca, an ancient astronomical observatory located on the hillsides of Copacabana. In spite of the name, the ruins are neither gallows nor made by the Incas. (Rumor attributes the erroneous name to Spanish colonialists upon their discovery of the site in the 16th century.) Locals use the piercing sunlight through the holed rocks surrounding the observatory to predict all kinds of things, from rainfall to expected crop yields during the Aymara new year. Put Horca del Inca and other Copacabana attractions into our Copacabana tour planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • very nice to be in a place of worship for the Incas here dominates the territory and at sunset it is a show

  • I love climbing the steps carved in stone, floors also of pure stone that accompanies the inka jib.

  • I did the sunrise on the horca del inca, go gently in the morning with the altitude to not run out of breath and the panorama is definitely worth it but I think the sunset on the other Hill is most impressive and offers a better view.
