Beautiful place both to see from inside or from far. Do try to view it when it is lit! The red and white lights make it look really beautiful and interesting. We visited on a Saturday evening and was very peaceful and beautiful.

Beautiful architecture. Huge and beautifully maintained fortress. The country Bhutan is ruled from that fortress. The monastery where tourists are allowed to visit is magnificent

The main capital fortress of Bhutan. It houses seat of His Majesty the King's Golden Throne and the seat of His Holiness the Je Khenpo (Abbot) of Bhutan. It showcases traditional architecture at its best.

Simply awesome view from inside or outside or from the top of the mountains. The monastery is located in a plain valley in the midst of hills. Architecture of the building is just awesome. Do remember one thing while visiting the place, you should never speak loudly inside any monastery in Bhutan. Bhutanese people are calmness lovers and are very cordial, respect their worship places. Building is quite big and some of the parts of the building are also used by Royal Bhutan Government.

An amazing example of Bhutanese architecture creates this monastery and fortress now partially used a government buildings. Housing huge courtyards and a beautiful temple. A must visit when in Bhutan for the sheer scale and attention to detail. A wonderful place.

Where to stay in Thimphu

As the capital, Thimphu features the largest range of accommodations in the kingdom. Only opening up to international tourism in the 1970's, the list remains relatively small, but the city remains in a period of development, so more options are arriving each year. Take a look along Norzim Lam, the main thoroughfare, for a number of small hotels, both budget and standard. Located close to the main attractions in the city, and overlooking the most attractive public plazas and parks, a small number of charming hotels offer mid-range and luxury rooms, with additional facilities such as pools.
