Kuenselphodrang, Thimphu

4.5
Examine an enormous statue of the Shakyamuni Buddha at Kuenselphodrang, which celebrates the 60th birthday of Bhutan's fourth king, Jigme Singye Wangchuck. Built in 2015, the 51 m (169 ft) bronze statue gilded in gold overlooks the southern tip of the nation's capital. The ornamented interior shelters over 100,000 Buddha icons, each made of the same material as the grandiose monument. Besides exploring the structure, you can also take photographs of the panoramic scenery and meander through the forest in the nearby nature park. • Also known as Buddha point. It's a short cab ride from the main city area. Should cost around Rs.500 (Same amount in the local currency). The statue of Buddha is about 150ft. And can be seen from most parts of the city but actually visiting it, is a whole different story.
  • High hills area. A large Buddha statue is there. This place is covered a large area. Many sculpturing are there in and around the temple. Many different little idle are also visible there. Construction is going on there till now. It looks like Buddha is sitting on the temple and looking forward to the east and over the hill areas. This idol can be noticed from all over the Thimpu city. Now it is free to visit for all tourist, it may be charged @500 Nu per tourist from January'18. It is heard that Japan is also contributed to establish this temple come idle.
  • The place is also known as Buddha Dordenma. It's one of the must visited place of Bhutan situated at Thimphu. A gigantic Buddha Statue is constructed there on top of the mountain. you can enjoy the birds eye view of Thimphu city from here. it's a beautiful and peaceful place.
  • A lovely place to watch, wander, enjoy and meditation. Scenic view from the place to the whole of Thimphu is awesome and magnificent. The statues of Tara Devi are extremely well. The calm and quiet environment and the gentle monks inside the temple is really good. The whole place including the sculptures are with the touch of modern tradition. The traditional touch of monasteries of Bhutan is somehow ignored here.
  • A good place high above in Thimpu, one can see whole of Thimpu city from this point. The only thing is this structure is still under construction though it is still accessible, but a lot of work is still left and certain parts are prohibited for tourists to visit.

Where to stay in Thimphu

As the capital, Thimphu features the largest range of accommodations in the kingdom. Only opening up to international tourism in the 1970's, the list remains relatively small, but the city remains in a period of development, so more options are arriving each year. Take a look along Norzim Lam, the main thoroughfare, for a number of small hotels, both budget and standard. Located close to the main attractions in the city, and overlooking the most attractive public plazas and parks, a small number of charming hotels offer mid-range and luxury rooms, with additional facilities such as pools.
