Choki Traditional Art School, Thimphu
(4.4/5 based on 70 reviews on the web)
Visit Choki Traditional Art School and observe student artists at work, painting, carving, and sculpting in traditional Bhutanese style. The art school provides scholarships for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, financing itself primarily from the sales of the art pieces produced by the students. Pick out your favorites from the artwork sold at the exhibition hall, along with small handcrafted souvenirs in the gift shop. If you're not in the buying mood, feel free to simply take a stroll through the school, observing the different art departments and the students toiling within them. • A school where studies of all the traditional arts - drawing, sculpture, painting, embroidery... - 6 years - are free. You can visit the classes and see the level over the study. Studious but cheerful atmosphere, boys and girls are housed on-site.
