Bhutan Post Office Headquarters, Thimphu

(280+ reviews on the web)
Landmark
Admire the traditional Dzong architecture at Bhutan Post Office Headquarters. The fortress-style edifice gives a nod to a style typical of Himalayan Tibetan Buddhist kingdoms--note the wide, decorated entryway and flared roof. Inside, browse through a large collection of stamps for sale, as well as a number of other souvenirs. Stop in the small museum showcasing Bhutan's postal history, including distribution in remote parts of the country. If you want to have a stamp made with your own picture, bring an image you like on a USB stick to avoid the line outside the photographer's studio. • Founded in early 1960s. Bhutan was introduced to television and Internet only in 1998 but before that post office was used by every single person and it still is used. The newly made museum has a collection of stamps and a short film about the history of post office in Bhutan. Very interesting about the post office is you can snap your own picture and crate a stamp which is accepted world wide
  • One of the best museums in the country! Very detailed and extremely helpful staff. You can also get your own stamp made here!
  • Yes this is a Post Office but this is also a tourist spot! Why? They print stamps with your pictures on them! Our guide asked if we wanted Bhutanese stamps with our pictures on them and we thought why not?
  • One of the first ever postal services in Bhutan is still there.
  • The Bhutan postal museum is one museum you cannot miss. The museum has a history of how Bhutan postal service has evolved for the last 30 years and some even for the last 50 years. You can make your own stamp with one of your best photos and send world wide.
