Phobjikha Valley, Bhutan
(4.9/5 based on 55+ reviews on the web)
Nature comes alive in Phobjikha Valley, a vast bowl-shaped glacial valley on the edge of the Black Mountain National Park. This conservation area is well-known for black-necked cranes, who roost in dwarf bamboo groves in this 3,000 m (9,842 ft) valley. You can observe them from an indoor deck with telescopes. Yak, muntjacs, sambar deer, Himalayan serow, and foxes are among the wildlife sheltered by blue pine, birch, and maple forests. Take a nature trail and visit the 17th century monastery perched on a hillock ridge above the valley. • A spectacular valley that I have been with my lovely family. All shades of greens and yellows are visible all together....a treat to the eyes...a feeling of tranquility...
  • Be warned. The road from Thimpu to Phubjikha is only 134 kms. It took us over six hours travelling at 22.5 kmph as the road conditions are BAD. Its a mountain road all the way from leaving Thimpu. You...  more »

  • One of the best places in bhutan. The black necked cranes are so beautiful. This place is also called as the switzerland of bhutan
  • I came to know of Phobjika or Valley of Black Neck Cranes from National Geographic. to my suprise when I asked Make My Trip at Kolkata, their ever helping manager told me that he can arrange a trip. The Black Neck Cranes are a feast for eyes. they are height of a goat, wing spread is about 1.5 mtrs.and a huge bird. they are good fliers too with such a heavy body of about 5 kg. Few seconds and they can reach a height of about a km. There are very few hotels. The valley itself is picturesque. There is a Crane trail of about 2 km by foot, but the land is marshy with wooden planks at some places. But if you want to see the crane dance it is the place. But you can see Black neck Cranes only in winter and temperature is near zero, the marshy part less than that. you must be well equipped.
  • If one goes to bhutan, then they should not forget to visit Phobjika valley. It is totally isolated from the world and has beautiful panoramic views. There is also gangteng monastery with a beautiful backdrop which one should not miss.
  • Definitely worth the ride from punakha. It is the Swiss of the East. Awesome view all around.
  • Beautifull place very calma and relax, no cell network (wich is a plus)
