Phobjikha Valley, Bhutan
Categories: Valleys, Wildlife Areas, Nature & Parks
Nature comes alive in Phobjikha Valley, a vast bowl-shaped glacial valley on the edge of the Black Mountain National Park. This conservation area is well-known for black-necked cranes, who roost in dwarf bamboo groves in this 3,000 m (9,842 ft) valley. You can observe them from an indoor deck with telescopes. Yak, muntjacs, sambar deer, Himalayan serow, and foxes are among the wildlife sheltered by blue pine, birch, and maple forests. Take a nature trail and visit the 17th century monastery perched on a hillock ridge above the valley.
