Listed as a World Heritage Site, Royal Palaces of Abomey represents the remains of a once powerful military and commercial empire that collaborated with Europeans in the slave trade until the late 19th century. Twelve kings ruled this kingdom, which could accommodate up to 8,000 people in its opulent palaces. Enter the compound through one of six gates, and explore the many restored and renovated structures within its mud walls, including the main palace, tomb, and jewelry room. Inside the onsite history museum, you can inspect over 1,000 exhibits representing the kingdom's culture, and also purchase souvenirs. Royal Palaces of Abomey Reviews
Der königliche Palast gibt wirklich nicht viel her , die wenigen Ausstellungsstücke sind nicht beleuchtet, da ständig der Strom gekappt wird . auf die Frage warum die Führerin keine Taschenlampe hat -... more »The Royal Palace is not much really, the few exhibits are not lit, since constantly to cut the power. on the question why the Director has no flashlight - twitch only shoulder. all gathering dust. The final room with King beds and some relics is ok. You must unlock him but extra.
Ein Weltkulturerbe, dass von außen noch halbwegs interessant aussieht, aber von innen leider nur wenig zu bieten hat. Einige der Räume zeigen Gegenstände der alten Könige und der Führer gibt sicher se... more »A world heritage, that even halfway interesting looks from the outside, but has to offer only little from the inside. Some of the rooms show items of ancient kings and the Guide are sure to his best. However a "no-go" for a world heritage is a ban on photography in the Interior of the palaces and the atmosphere of the site actually, especially as photos would cause no damage. OK, it's a tourist attraction, but not a real highlight.
Appena entrati, presso la biglietteria iniziano i cartelli che intimano di non fotografare né all'interno del palazzo né nei cortili interni ma soltanto nel cortile principale (dove ci sono i negozi d... more »Upon entering at the box office beginning the signs that warn not to photograph or inside the Palace nor inner courtyards but only in the main courtyard (where there are souvenir shops). There are lockers to store cameras. It is not clear that prohibition logic, which is however unpleasant because certain parts of the building are very photogenic, especially the facades with the niches with sculptural inserts and finely carved wooden doors. The site is protected by Unesco, but maintenance leaves much to be desired. The niches with sculptures are full of cobwebs and uncultivated meadows. Ugly sheet metal roofs, which are often the only value of resume vaguely red earthenware of the palaces and walls. Some buildings House the Museum, whose salient parts are, in my opinion, the scepters real (there's one for each of the King) and the thrones. The Kingdom of Dahomey ends in the year 1900 by the French invasion.
