Shipstern Conservation & Management Area, Sarteneja

#4 of 6 in Things to do in Corozal
A visit to the North-East of Belize allows for the discovery of a beautiful region still off the beaten track. Shipstern has traditionally been a magnet for those naturalists and tourists ready to leave the main circuit, and no one has ever been disappointed. The sheer diversity in landscapes and habitats is astounding, and it is also the only place in Belize where you will be able to experience a walk through a coastal dry Yucatan forest, and see the very rare Kuka Palm and Elephant’s Foot in the wild.

  • Friendly staff, nice to visit by be even (no guide available on our visit), but don't forget that it is in the forest and so allow long clothes and the repellent against mosquitoes 200 who will sue you. NB: don't you wrong circuit to avoid hours of walking, follow the green "botanical trail" that lasts about 30 minutes.

  • Shipstern is doing many great things for belize.and the village of Sarteneja. ..
  • Well maintained park for people who want a glimpse of nature. Very impressive butterfly enclosure. I'm talking about a screened in deck system where you can walk through while beautiful butterflies flitter about. It was quite a magical experience.
  • Nice people. Great service!
  • Shipstern conservation is a beautiful place, with an observation tower. A great place for birdwatchers and nature lovers !
  • Literally in the middle of nowhere, I was blown away by the hospitality, clean and spacious facilities, amazing blend of local and international cuisine (I especially loved the Horchata) and the warm and friendly hospitality of all workers (most if not all locals)!!!
