Rio On Pools, Cayo

4.2
#6 of 18 in Nature in Cayo
Immerse yourself in the beauty and tranquility of nature at Rio On Pools. Dip into cool, calm granite pools that feed from water cascading down rocks. Surrounded by lush green vegetation, the nearby grassy area makes for a great spot to enjoy a picnic while listening to the sound of water flowing downstream. Bring good water shoes and be careful when traversing the granite, as the rocks can be very slippery. • Fantastic place for a swim on any day! Wandering between the pools on the rocks, or wading through them to get between beautiful rapids is a relaxing and refreshing experience. Has changed rooms and an easily usable trail.
  • One of the more accessible areas of Mountain Pine Forest - easy to park and not very crowded. Free entry. Opportunity to swim in the pools and under a waterfall after a short, steep downhill walk. Note that roads leading to forest are bumpy and you will have to go slow, took a very long time to get from main roads to forest -- 4 wheel drive highly recommended. You will also be stopped on the way to have your license plate recorded. No bathrooms.
  • Many good swimming spots and plenty of flat rocks to lay out. There's also shades and a changing room (no bathroom) on the banks. Great place to spend a few hours and easy to find but you'll need a 4WD vehicle to get here. Easy and short trail down to the pools. A few nice waterfalls to explore. Usually not crowded in the mornings as most folks don't visit the pools until they return from Caracol.
  • Five star for all the natural stuff and zero stars for the small roof with old dirty picnic tables and overgrown weed.
  • Absolutely beautiful attraction and well worth the drive to get there! There are many, many pools which you can swim in or sit in, and it wasn't crowded at all when I went. The views are spectacular and the water is clean - it's absolutely picturesque.
