Citadelle (Citadel), Namur

#1 of 18 in Things to do in Namur
Dating all the way back to the Roman era, Citadelle (Citadel), also known as "Castle of Namur," serves as one of the largest fortresses in Europe. Originally a protective space for military postings, the castle today is a tourist attraction and occasionally is rented out for events. Walk through the premises of the castle and explore the original rugged structure of the fortress walls. Next, go through the underground passageways, or "The Termite Nest of Europe," below the castle's grounds. Walking through the outdoor gardens is a great way to end your tour and gain some magnificent views of the surrounding city. If you don't want to walk the grounds, sign up for a Segway tour with a guide. • The fortress of zaprimetil, passing through Namur train from Brussels to Luxembourg. She was impressive tiered fortifications, its power, but ... Unfortunately, the inside look almost nothing. We can say that it is a large park surrounded by fortification walls. True view from the walls of the city-wonderful.

  • No Panel to help tourists except at the info point informing that what he wants big up actually Sandy games pretty murky. The small garden of scents (nice enough anyway) is too hidden behind the Castle. Only thing that really worthwhile? the friendly views on rivers and the city.

  • The visit of the Citadel by train is very friendly, don't miss the visit of the underground and the Museum. It is advisable to take the pass for a quite affordable price of 11 euros (free for teachers). Read all about the history of the Citadel and Namur.
