Citadelle (Citadel), Namur

Dating all the way back to the Roman era, Citadelle (Citadel), also known as "Castle of Namur," serves as one of the largest fortresses in Europe. Originally a protective space for military postings, the castle today is a tourist attraction and occasionally is rented out for events. Walk through the premises of the castle and explore the original rugged structure of the fortress walls. Next, go through the underground passageways, or "The Termite Nest of Europe," below the castle's grounds. Walking through the outdoor gardens is a great way to end your tour and gain some magnificent views of the surrounding city. If you don't want to walk the grounds, sign up for a Segway tour with a guide. • The ride worth up here alone because of the views. Some anxiety, we found the huge underground facilities, but you should visit the fortress at a Namurbesuch. Because the plants are so huge, you can take a mini train.

  • The Citadel of Namur is not only an architectural work impressive and rich history. It overcomes especially a site that offers multiple possibilities in terms of recreation. The views on Namur and surroundings are multiple. The possibilities of walks are also very large, with significant variations in relief reserve. Various tours are available. The site also houses a perfumery workshop and is dotted with several restaurants (sometimes), taverns and attractions for children. (Re) discover by taking the time to explore its many nooks. Recently, the Citadel is finally beautifully illuminated at night.

  • Very nice place not only to visit but also to wander. The different points of view on Namur and legs are worth visiting. And since the new lighting, the Citadel still shows us another face of night.

  • Nice place to chill. This place is quite raw and less touristy as compared to Bruges or Ghent. Would recommend to people who want to avoid the crowded place.
  • Pleasant place to visit and to walk around. Great viewpoints.
  • Everything is just great, besides one issue. If you want to visit subterranean tonnels you have to pay for a guided tour. And it is ok. But the tour is only available in French. Hmm.
  • We spent the day just walking around outside. There is a beautiful castle within the citadel walls (now run as a hotel) with lovely gardens to explore, a play structure for children, spectacular views, and free admission to the grounds!
  • One of the oldest and best preserved citadels in Europe. It offers the best panoramic view over the city.
