Citadelle (Citadel), Namur

Dating all the way back to the Roman era, Citadelle (Citadel), also known as "Castle of Namur," serves as one of the largest fortresses in Europe. Originally a protective space for military postings, the castle today is a tourist attraction and occasionally is rented out for events. Walk through the premises of the castle and explore the original rugged structure of the fortress walls. Next, go through the underground passageways, or "The Termite Nest of Europe," below the castle's grounds. Walking through the outdoor gardens is a great way to end your tour and gain some magnificent views of the surrounding city. If you don't want to walk the grounds, sign up for a Segway tour with a guide. • Underground to visit. By the Group of 30, guides very knowledgeable and informative. Little train fairly short but nice.

  • A scope often underestimated in Namur, walks and activities are varied and views of the city (Namur, legs), magnificent. Always a pleasure to go there, and if that traffic down, do not hesitate to visit. Meals to take away and enjoy contemplating the city is something that I really recommend.

  • The Citadel of Namur is a nice highlight in this very diverse city. You can walk around the Citadel for free, but some parts are closed for public at night. When on top of the mountain, you have amazing views over the city. If you're planning to visit right now (first half of 2018): be aware that a lot of renovations are taking place, so your experience might be a bit spoiled.
  • Incredible history. The tour of the underground tunnels is great! The train tour of the grounds is less so. Worth the cost of the all-pass.
  • A long walk but well worth the visit. The views from the city and river from different perspectives are really interesting and the military structures are also worth it. When in Namur, don't hesitate to visit, even if the walk seems daunting at first.
  • The Citadel is nice, but the underground tour is really interesting. It takes you through the fortifications and visit the inside. Our tour guide was really knowledgeable which made it even more enjoyable. This tour is well worth the time and the cost if you're interested in the history of Namur.
  • Very good museum and site - site is free, and entrance to the museum is only 4 euro. Parking is big and free. If you want to see everything - you need min half day. The concert for the museum is very interesting and makes things easy to understand and remember.
