Where to stay in Mons

Despite its close proximity to the capital, Mons attracts enough visitors in its own right to offer a small variety of accommodation options. You'll find mostly small, independent hotels clustered in the compact city center and, if you look carefully, a modest selection of low-budget lodgings. To cut costs, consider staying in Brussels and making the short trip by train for the day.

  • A very quite and well kept cemetery, the place is the last resting place of the first and last soldier to die in Frances during the 1st world war. A place for reflectance on the absolute waste of life...  more »
  • Very well-kept and well-arranged site of remembrance of international soldiers killed in action in World Wars I and II. Plainly and unobtrusively touching and inspiring.  more »

  • WWI cemetery with both allied and german sldiers buried there. The first and last soldier who died are buried in this place. Nice place to remember horror of wars
  • Having just completed a tour of the area this cemetery is by far the nicest settings for such a sad place, a few seats would be useful for a time of contemplation especially for the less able.
  • A must see for those interested, one of the most beautiful cemetery I visited at the moment. A special feature: three graves, the first British soldier killed in action in 1914, the grave of the last British soldier killed on 11 November 1918, and the grave of an officer who was awarded the Victoria Cross (see photos). A special feature on German tombstones of a style can share. The layout and realization of the cemetery is a high quality design.

  • walking among the graves of young men of barely eighteen years old, died for the honour of their country and to preserve freedom, all because of the stupidity of a few men. A great moment of emotion and sadness that could transpose into many places in the world. A must if you come to Mons
