Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Koekelberg

(3.9/5 based on 500+ reviews on the web)
Discover the center of the Catholic community at Basilica of the Sacred Heart, a church that is just the beginning of a network of buildings that make up the community. The attraction serves as part of a complex that includes a chapel, a Catholic radio station, two museums, two theaters, and a restaurant, while the church itself is a blend of neoclassical and art deco architecture. Services at the basilica are held in both Dutch and French, and you are welcome to participate or observe. Compared to the magnificent exterior, the interior decor is modest and expansive, but take note of the stained glass windows and murals. Consider a climb up to the dome for a view over the city. You'll pay a small admission fee that is used for the church's upkeep. • A guide had recommended us to go up to the top, where they have a spectacular Lookout where you can see almost the entire city. Up you have to pay I think about 3 or 5€, but still worth, they are very good. We liked it very much.

  • The size of the building is overwhelming, if also the beauty it is not my opinion. The yellowish brown tiles inside seem so, when you wanted to build a large church, but not enough budget had... The atmosphere in this large building is still particularly, especially as it off not is overrun something due to the location from the Centre of tourists. Due to the bad weather, I haven't been on top of the tower. I can imagine me but that is a ride worth upwards as well, as the Park in front of the Church when the weather is also very beautiful.

  • The basilica is located away from the Center private of Brussels. The building is very austere and of building modern. The views from the observation deck are unimpressive, the profile of Brussels does not help. The Museum of religious art does not improve the visit. Only worth a small museum, where in a room the Sœurs Noires (black sisters), treasure objects, paintings, tableware, sculptures, etc. of your community. In general, does not deserve the displacement.

  • Huge and beautiful, both inside and outside. It's possible to climb on the top of it, on the roof. And the view from it is mindboggling.
  • Nice place to go in good weather to stay outside and enjoy the view
  • Awesome view, but it's just to modern. With a lift inside as well, made it less hard to get to the top!
  • Not a fan of the architecture, it seems a bit empty. OK, it's huge but there are nicer churches. The views are great.
  • Nothing fancy. But it offers free parking lot. And a lot of papers and guides
