Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Koekelberg

4.0
Discover the center of the Catholic community at Basilica of the Sacred Heart, a church that is just the beginning of a network of buildings that make up the community. The attraction serves as part of a complex that includes a chapel, a Catholic radio station, two museums, two theaters, and a restaurant, while the church itself is a blend of neoclassical and art deco architecture. Services at the basilica are held in both Dutch and French, and you are welcome to participate or observe. Compared to the magnificent exterior, the interior decor is modest and expansive, but take note of the stained glass windows and murals. Consider a climb up to the dome for a view over the city. You'll pay a small admission fee that is used for the church's upkeep. Make Basilica of the Sacred Heart a part of your Brussels vacation plans using our Brussels holiday planning site .

  • Located in the periphery of the city and a park at his feet, this huge Temple is not very attractive for its exterior and what is striking in its interior are its huge dimensions, you can climb to the dome for 5 euros, although the views not worth much. Only recommend a visit if you have time of leftovers in Brussels.

  • It's a beautiful church with stained glass real pretty, somewhat resembles the Basilica of our Lady of aparecida in aparecida SP.

  • The visit is worth the look and especially the views of Brussels in 360 degrees from the top of the Basilica. Not to be missed.

  • Must see! It's definitely out of the way but you can walk there from the metro in about 15 minutes. There is also a park opposite. The architecture is stunning and the church is so big that it took me 10 minutes just to walk around it. The interior was also beautiful. Highly recommend.
  • Five stars for the views from the top, 3 stars for the church itself. It's a massive structure, although I'm not really a fan of the drab modern interior - the brickwork reminds me of the walls of a school. Prettier from the outside. Well worth the €5 to get to the roof
  • Very beautiful and huge! Free entry but 5€ p. P. To go upstairs
  • It is one of the most beautiful and architectural cathedral details, old and precious building, it has outstanding, breathtaking location which over viewing on the Brussels, inside the building is most beautiful, brick wall and circular ceiling architecture have nice big space atmosphere
  • This is amazing massive building. Nice interior, beautiful place, park is close.

Where to stay in Brussels

It's easy to find accommodations in Brussels for nearly any budget. Tourists generally gravitate to the area surrounding Grand-Place, the city's main square. Also consider staying near Stephanie Square Centre and Boulevard de Waterloo, which are both centrally located. As Europe's unofficial capital, the city boasts a wealth of high-end hotels for visiting diplomats, concentrated along glitzy Avenue Louise. Those looking for a low-budget option will find a host of hostels scattered around the Grand-Place and within walking distance to the city's main attractions.
