Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Koekelberg
Categories: Sacred & Religious Sites, Tourist Spots
Discover the center of the Catholic community at Basilica of the Sacred Heart, a church that is just the beginning of a network of buildings that make up the community. The attraction serves as part of a complex that includes a chapel, a Catholic radio station, two museums, two theaters, and a restaurant, while the church itself is a blend of neoclassical and art deco architecture. Services at the basilica are held in both Dutch and French, and you are welcome to participate or observe. Compared to the magnificent exterior, the interior decor is modest and expansive, but take note of the stained glass windows and murals. Consider a climb up to the dome for a view over the city. You'll pay a small admission fee that is used for the church's upkeep. However, as soon as you walk through the door, it's the deception that prevails: bricks, no finesse, no decoration, cold to shiver the dead. A (paid) lift can take you up to the level of the dome, which however gives you a beautiful view of Brussels and surroundings. But for this, the atomnium has a huge capital gain! And say that the construction of this building was paid for by the money of the people, via collections in churches, what a waste!show original

Huge and beautiful, both inside and outside. It's possible to climb on the top of it, on the roof. And the view from it is mindboggling.

Awesome view, but it's just to modern. With a lift inside as well, made it less hard to get to the top!
Not a fan of the architecture, it seems a bit empty. OK, it's huge but there are nicer churches. The views are great.
Nothing fancy. But it offers free parking lot. And a lot of papers and guides

Truly impressive and worth the walk from the city center. This is the fifth largest church on earth
