Castle Veves, Houyet
(3.7/5 based on 65+ reviews on the web)
The Castle of Vêves occupies a rocky platform just outside the village of Celles, in the province of Namur, Belgium. It is classified as Major Heritage of Wallonia. According to tradition, the site has been occupied by castles since the time of Pippin of Herstal (7th century). In the later Middle Ages, the area fell under control of the Beaufort family, which oversaw the construction of a stronghold here in about 1230.The present castle, in the form of an irregular pentagon and flanked by six round towers of varying size, dates largely from around 1410. Successive restorations modified especially the walls of the inner courtyard, one of which is lined with a distinctive half-timbered gallery of two levels, and another of which was given a red brick facade in the Louis XV style. The northern frontage is crowned with a small cupola containing a clock.

  • Lovely small castle of typical plain transformed into a country house. Inside date from the end of the xvIII e s. Opposite great amazing and impressive castles built by landowners, bankers or industrialists, everything here is sober, human-sized, and I would say even comfortable. Across the street are about you to shock: you see, like out of a dream: the improbable and colossal Castle of Noisy. It emerges from this Castle a feeling full of fascination, see fear quite strange. The contrast of the two sites is striking and unmistakable. Too bad that they cannot be visited, was that from the outside, it would be a unique experience. Recommend.

  • Appearance is "Castle" Japanese have envisioned. Even the simple things I feel like OK you look and take pictures. I lean one way go get your Castle, but came a tour of Japan. Japan tour is incredible!. According to legend on this ground from Pepin II in the 7th century there was a castle. The current Castle is around 1410, primarily is a thing. Open call on the intercom at the entrance gate is closed. Without knowing what the local people to do so are hanging around, ask cool on the intercom.

  • History during the French Revolution, the count of Liedekerke Beaufort is kicked out of his family Castle of Vévés. He takes refuge in a farm near those. As soon as the Revolution lost his breath, cheered them, descendants of the count, transformed the farm into a castle with the help of the English architect Edward Milner. It is the french architect Pelchner who built the central tower in 1903 and finished the work in 1907. It will then, the summer residence of the Liedekerke Beaufort family...; and are descending destroyed the Castle en2016, which saved them...
