Grottes de Hotton, Hotton

4.0
#1 of 7 in Nature in Luxembourg Province
Admire spectacular limestone formations at Grottes de Hotton, a set of caves in the Ardennes. Elaborately coated by speleothem, a secondary mineral deposit, the cave walls make for some fabulous underground scenery, with a maze of galleries and a stream. Discovered in 1958, this cave system is some 5-6 km (3-3.7 mi) long and 70 m (230 ft) deep. Take a guided tour to explore the rooms and balconies, admire shapes and shades, and hear the roar of the underground water in a 40 m (131 ft) deep chasm. At the end of the tour, stop by the visitor center for more information or a coffee at the cafeteria terrace. Put Grottes de Hotton into our Hotton trip planning website and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • Today visited the caves. The guide was new (started today) had to look for what he told on his paper. He did his best but was more out of it. Group was too large making always wait until the latter were connected. Beautiful stalactite formations, pity the many iron stairs in the cave and not off electricity wires worked.

  • Today we visited the caves of Hotton. In itself beautiful caves with beautiful formations, but the guide was substandard. I suspect that it was a summer job. The French version was part of a sheet of paper read off, the Dutch and English was inaudible. Sometimes she told something in French and in translation, she said a few times, but not important when she let the word is not found.

  • Welcomed as a number, not a smile, 9.50 per person and children from age 4 to 6.5 euros for a visit of 50 minutes a bit expensive time. I was expecting more surprising, but it is a cave in a hole 5 meters wide. A lot of metal stairs, 1 single game of light. Positive point, the guide and does not forget to ask his tip. See possibly rainy weather...

  • The caves are well worth a visit and we thought good value for money at 9euros each. The entrance building could do with a clean though, the waiting area was filthy. The guide was great and fluent in 3 languages. She made every effort to explain to everyone what we were seeing. The only small gripe we had with the tour was that it felt slightly rushed, we would have liked to have had a bit more time to look around but apart from that we would definitely recommend a visit.
  • Cool caves! Fit for kids! Excellent multilingual guide!
  • We didn't even have to enter the area to know the owners are very rude and not friendly, because we saw them on the parking snaring at our kids!!
  • Nice spot to visit when raining
  • Spectacular. Well worth the effort.
