  • We visited this impressive cathedral mainly to see the Van Eyck altarpiece - The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb - and it is quite stunning. In the main cathedral itself, we were impressed by the range o...  more »
  • I must say a Word from the nursery of the world with kangaroos, panda and Aztec temples located in the Church and that will delight children. The adoration of the Lamb can be seen against the sum of € 4 which gives law also in a fairly comprehensive audio guide

  • Our goal was to visit the Cathedral. Unfortunately the Lord was there wouldn't let us in because he was Sunday. To understand, however, the mass was held in the crypt and not on the top floor. The given argument was that on Sunday the Cathedral is intended for practitioners ... apparently the tourists are atheists. I understand the issue of respect and silence! I don't understand the antipathy and this rigidity of thought in a place that supposedly favors the ideology of equality between people.

  • Beautiful cathedral. Was covered in scaffolding for a while but its shining again. Inside you'll find the painting "Ghent Alterpiece" (Lam Gods) from Ven Eyck.
  • Absolutely breathtaking. Location of the Ghent altarpiece. The Crypt is actually a museum. Unfortunately unable to take photos inside.
  • One of the finest cathedrals in Belgium and, therefore, the world. Do pay the few euros needed to see the Lamb of God painting (go left at the entrance of the cathedral), it will be one of the finests works you will ever see, literally worth 50 mona lisas.
  • From the outside it looks like a big church. From the inside its the most impressive church I've ever seen. It's so big, as you wander round, there are lots of other mini rooms and places of worship all along the corridors. A must see if your in the area. The general decor/colour is quite dark - it's very unusual colour mix.
  • The Altarpiece, as reported in other reviews, is extraordinary and is worth the time and effort. Vastly under-appreciated.
