  • Somewhat away from the center of the city, ten minutes walking, boasts two beautiful Romanesque towers. The interior offers a screen with the same information.

  • As in many churches today, it is more often used for worship. The association who runs made the choice to open it to cultural activities: concerts, exhibitions of contemporary art, or even snack bar during parties Ghent. Make live a place without limiting it to the past, what beautiful and generous initiative. The pilgrims who follow the way of St. James are also stage at St James Church. Finally, a very nice Chair adorns the nave in an architectural set that is not without interest.

  • Church per se is not a must, but the bars around yes. Charlatan and company are the nights life after 24h00.
  • Nice cathedral inside. But also on the outside it is still rather well kept
  • Another beautiful church in Gent but Sint-Jacobkerk is not open everyday (due to maintenance cost maybe). I usually go there on Friday morning. There are some volunteers that always help you to explain about history of the church.
  • I was unable to visit this church as it was closed, I went at 2pm on a Tuesday. This church may only be open on Sundays for worship. There wasn't a sign noting when it is open.
  • Interesting. Watch out for the mausoleum of Jan Palfijn.

Where to stay in Ghent

One of Belgium's main cities, Ghent offers a good variety of places to stay. Because of its proximity to the capital city of Brussels and the city of Bruges, Ghent has fewer options than one might expect for a city of its size. Locals recommend booking a room in advance. The city has options for travelers on any budget, from inexpensive hostels to pricier hotels, with most visitors choosing to stay within the historical center. Prices drop slightly as you move away from the Old Town.
