  • In 10 centuries of moated castle evolved into inhabited museum. Guided tour of more than 1 hour. The different building styles are the best seen from the courtyard. Some very nice areas, soberly furnished and restored with respect for the past. Important Silver collection. The stories about the witch places the lock in the proper historical context.

  • Ancient historical castle build to protect Gent. Witches still spook around as they were burned in and around the castle. Unfortunately the castle itself is hardly open. There is a large silver collec...  more »
  • Received by a very nice tour guide who manages to keep the visit exciting for all ages. Certainly interesting for lovers of silver and tapestries, but do not be put off. ... the history of the various families who lived in the Castle and the witch trials where the Castle played a role make it fun for everyone.

  • It was a great destination as I took my bike from Gent. Well worth it if you want to enjoy a bit of get away.

Where to stay in Ghent

One of Belgium's main cities, Ghent offers a good variety of places to stay. Because of its proximity to the capital city of Brussels and the city of Bruges, Ghent has fewer options than one might expect for a city of its size. Locals recommend booking a room in advance. The city has options for travelers on any budget, from inexpensive hostels to pricier hotels, with most visitors choosing to stay within the historical center. Prices drop slightly as you move away from the Old Town.
