La Citadelle de Dinant, Dinant

(3.8/5 based on 850+ reviews on the web)
A fortress that watches over the city, La Citadelle de Dinant stands on the site of a fort that was constructed in 1051. The citadel blends with the cliff face on which it sits, complete with a grassy roof, so, from a distance, it's difficult to see. However, once inside, a huge interior courtyard and a museum offer visitors a glimpse back in time. Climb the 400-plus steps leading to the entrance, or save your energy and ride a cable car to the top. In the museum, learn about the fortress' history with life-size figurines in dioramas, as well as traditional museum exhibits. Go up the stairs to the upper walls of the citadel for a view over the Meuse Valley. Purchase your tickets when you arrive; the attraction is rarely crowded. Use our Dinant itinerary maker to add La Citadelle de Dinant and other attractions to your Dinant vacation plans.

  • 6.5 euros without the cable car and with 450 markets, it's a bit much. The place is nice with the Sun, if it's gray, drop... the animations in the appointed parts are interesting.

  • very nice, to walk to visit, to see. But it is not often open, so watch out.Alse the restaurant, very good, very nice.
  • Correct rates for the visit € 6.50 for this price you can go down 408 markets into town! Beware the funicular is not accessible all the time. Interesting, well maintained monument with lots of elements on the war I recommend!

  • We took the stairs, and the sign doesn't lie, we counted! Once you get upstairs, there are displays that tell the history of the citadel quite well. There is also a room where you can experience how the night of the attack must've felt for the inhabitants of the city, a must!
  • Fun playground and cable car ride for kids. The admission price to the museum includes a cable car ride up and down the hill. There is free parking up the hill next to the cable car.
  • Awesome fortress. You should definitely check it out if you are in the area. The self guided tour was free.
  • An interesting walk through the insides of the fortification. The story takes you back to the battles of the 19th and early 20th century. Do the stairs to the top if the weather is good!
  • Great for a visit. Lovely city. Can easily spend hours lazing on the waterfront restaurants.
