A fortress that watches over the city, Citadelle de Dinant stands on the site of a fort that was constructed in 1051. The citadel blends with the cliff face on which it sits, complete with a grassy roof, so, from a distance, it's difficult to see. However, once inside, a huge interior courtyard and a museum offer visitors a glimpse back in time. Climb the 400-plus steps leading to the entrance, or save your energy and ride a cable car to the top. In the museum, learn about the fortress' history with life-size figurines in dioramas, as well as traditional museum exhibits. Go up the stairs to the upper walls of the citadel for a view over the Meuse Valley. Purchase your tickets when you arrive; the attraction is rarely crowded. We visited Dinant on 12 September 2020. The citadel, cable car, and river boats were all open and easy to visit. The 17 Euro combo fee (for adults) to do all three was a great value. You can buy... more »

If you visit Belgium, this town is a must-see. It has all the charm of the countryside and old towns by the river. Take a boat tour in La Meuse and be amazed by all the beauty surrounding the river banks.

Visiting the Citadel I Dinant Belgium was a fantastic historical experience. The cable car was out so we had to walk 960 steps to get the the top and then back down. There is a cable car also but it was down for maintenance. The views we're spectacular and the history exciting.

Awesome place for a days visit. You can reach the top by stairs, cable car or by car. Entrance is 10euros per person. At the cafe, there is a clock mentioning the next guided tour. Take the guided tour! It's really nice. There is a huge play area for people with kids. The panoramic balcony view can be accessed only with a guide.

One of the most wonderful experiences I’ve ever had, everyone should visit this place.. and I recommend to climb the stairs to feel the journey unless your physical capabilities isn’t helping.

Beautiful view and a nice museum on-site. Inside museum there is bunker zone that have very interesting setup n structure that make you feel like gravitational pull from side .. something worth experiencing it’s fun Overall a good place with 8€ of entry ticket , it’s definitely value for money There is a kids play area as well
