Royal Museum of the Armed Forces and of Military History, Brussels

4.4
#4 of 88 in Museums in Brussels
Located in Cinquantenaire Park, Royal Museum of the Armed Forces and of Military History houses aircraft, weaponry, uniforms, and vehicles from all the nations that participated in World Wars I and II. Tightly packed into two halls in the park's northern complex, the exhibits are dense and visually stimulating. Consider combining your visit to museum with a trip to the park. The hall where the artifacts are housed was meant to be temporary, but expanded to a permanent space with a domed, glass roof that is easy to spot from most areas in the park. • The Museum of military history is dedicated to the Belgian army and its history since the year 1700 to the present day. The Museum was opened in 1923 are exposed hundreds of weapons and armor, military uniforms from different eras, decorations, paintings, miniatures, sculptures, guns, boats, tanks, military aircraft and many interesting representations as some typical scenes of World War II or how life was in the trenches.

  • If you are seriously interested in military history and can read German it's fantastic. Amazing variety of stuff, full size tanks/planes/ship pieces. Seriously incredible. Lower rating because the people at the front desk weren't very nice and they advertise every where that you should get the audio tour but they don't have enough devices on hand. Real disappointment. Also, the bathrooms were super smelly. Beautiful building/arches and a sweet view of the city included in the ticket office.
  • It was a great experience to see and feel all the big guns. Also a chance to explore and learn about world war armed forces. There is a section about Russian gifts which is unique in its own ways. I also relished some snacks at a cafe inside the museum.
  • Lovely place to visit.. lots of items from world war 1 and 2 and Belgium's colonial past.. best thing was the fresh waffle maker in the van outside in the park. Try it.. fresh and fluffy. With Belgian chocolate .
  • Sunday 17/12/17 visite. Was fun but this museum needs a renovation big time. The collection is great, but needs restoration. The building is beautiful, but needs a restoration (on the inside and outside). How many leaks are there in the roof? 10? 20? 30? +/- all the planes have flat tires and are dusty. Maybe the way of presentation was great in 1923 but in 2017? This collection simply deserves better!!! A 5 star for collection minus 2 stars for presentation.
  • Very good museum to visit when in Brussels. They have a huge collection of arms dating back from the medieval era to modern day. The airplanes and marines weapons hall is one of the best parts of the museum. The ticket for the whole museum is 5 euros, for an audio guide in English you have for pay another 3 euro's. When I visited the museum, I was told that they only accept paying with card "no cash".
