Parc du Cinquantenaire, Brussels

4.4
#4 of 39 in Historic Sites in Brussels
Architectural Building Historic Site
Stroll the promenades of a grand urban park at Parc du Cinquantenaire, home of the Arc du Cinquantenaire. The 19th century saw the addition of the triumphal arch for Belgium's 50th anniversary as an independent nation. Three museums occupy the northern part of the park: the Royal Military Museum, Autoworld, and the Cinquantenaire Museum. A 19th-century monument called the Temple of Human Passions and a Great Mosque take up the northwest corner of the park. The buildings at the corners of the park complement the arch's neoclassical grandeur with their domes and rotundas, and the center is dominated by an esplanade where you can walk through the landscaped greenery. • Within this park the famous Museum of the fiftieth anniversary, lies with its Arc de Triomphe, reminiscent of Berlin's Brandenburg Gate, as I said above. It is a great place to relax and has many fast food stalls.

  • It is another of the visits of the city, a quiet Park, people running with their dogs, making picnic... it is a very pleasant walk!

  • It is one of the most representative buildings of Brussels and was built to celebrate fifty years of the birth of the Belgian nation. It has an arc de Triomphe with a bronze Quadriga at its top center and hosts three museums: the of the fiftieth anniversary, the military history and one of the cars of all ages.

Where to stay in Brussels

It's easy to find accommodations in Brussels for nearly any budget. Tourists generally gravitate to the area surrounding Grand-Place, the city's main square. Also consider staying near Stephanie Square Centre and Boulevard de Waterloo, which are both centrally located. As Europe's unofficial capital, the city boasts a wealth of high-end hotels for visiting diplomats, concentrated along glitzy Avenue Louise. Those looking for a low-budget option will find a host of hostels scattered around the Grand-Place and within walking distance to the city's main attractions.
