(3.7/5 based on 500+ reviews on the web)
Discover how the capital city became what it is today at Museum of the City of Brussels (Musee de la Ville de Bruxelles). The museum showcases a scale model of Brussels in the Middle Ages and a whole host of artifacts specific to the city, including items used by all types of people, from craftsmen to aristocrats. Paintings, textiles, tapestries, and tools fill each room of the city hall, which houses the museum. You'll recognize the building by the ornate statuary and relief carvings that distinguish it in the Grand Place, the large square in the city center. Don't miss the display of 750 costumes for the city's iconic Mannequin Pis, the famous urinating fountain. • Never entered the museum as we were told that it was beneficial to know French slightly better than we did. The building itself is in the middle of Grand Place so you cannot miss it.  more »
  • The collection is not large, but what they display is quite nice. A good way to spend 1.5 hours. There are laminated pamphlets in boxes on the wall describing items in each room in different language....  more »

  • There's some cool things in this museum but there's not too much order to things. All the outfits of Mannekin Pis are here though, which is pretty cool.
  • One of the brilliant buildings granting the square its worldwide renown
  • Some old maps of Brussels. And the doll costumes. A good waste of time, but not a... Have to... In Brussels.
  • Surprising little museum. Very nice survey of Brussels History in a charming historic building. The collection of Mannekin Pis costumes organized by nationality and special events is a delight and a joy. Very little English signage on various displays, have your google translate app at the ready.
  • Some fascinating material on the development of Brussels over the millennia.
