Museum of Natural Sciences, Brussels

#7 of 89 in Museums in Brussels
Discover one of the largest dinosaur halls in the world at Museum of Natural Sciences, an attraction that is part museum and part research center. Don't miss the 30 completely assembled Iguanodon skeletons that seem to be stalking the dinosaur hall. These fierce beasts were discovered in the 19th century not far from the museum. A Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton is another favorite that sends chills up your spine, but the nearby herbivores, such as the Stegosaurus, don't seem too rattled. The permanent exhibits continue the local theme with dinosaur discoveries, evolution, insects, shells, minerals, and animal life in the city. Temporary exhibits also move through the museum and many of these are combined with educational programs. The museum is included in the Brussels City Card, which gives you free access to 30 city museums. However, a single ticket is also very affordable. • Very nice, well renovated Museum. Very nice collection of dinosaur skeletons in a beautiful hall. The different collections are presented very didactic way, well suited for young children. Negative point: - the great hall of dinosaurs is very noisy because of its old architecture - the museum plan is complex (as a result of its old architecture) that need to retrace its steps several times.

  • Special exhibition of the skeletons found in Bernissart iguanodons. Beautiful presentation of this set. However the exhibition hall is noisy, nice, a lot of reverberation of sounds. For us it is the only interest of this Museum, the rest is either of the déjà vu it is unexciting. Lack of explanation, route in the Museum that is not very clear. A lot of pseudo educational entertainment for children quite bit exciting. Even for children interest remains limited. Last topic interesting enough comprehensive geological collection with lots of samples. We have not see the temporary exhibition on birds and reptiles. To the morning to avoid the crowds from 13:00.

  • If you have children with you to Brussels then the natural history museum is a nice place to stroll and enjoy the children discover the wonders of the world including dinosaurs. It is located just off the European parliament and there is a big dinosaur outside so it is hard to miss. They also have interactive displays for kids to discover things as well as traditional displays. There are several floors but the grand hall is extensive and you can easily spend two hours just walking through the museum. There is a nice coffee shop on the ground floor together with a nice gift shop.
  • I didn't quite like the organization of the exposition, it is difficult to move around the various sections of the museum in an informed way or to plan the timing of the visit. Great dinosaurs' section, with stunning fossils. The interactive panels and the videos in the evolutionary section, on the top floor, are very didactic, interesting and entertaining.
  • A great museum for kids and adults too. There is a huge exhibition of rockes, all kind of. There are interesting exhibiotions with dinosaurs, animals, plants. Wheel chair place. Free toilet. A wardrobe.
  • Dinosaur collection is definitely worthwhile to see. The other collections are not that special in comparison to various natural history museums I already visited. The entry price is rather low however. All by all a decent visit that takes about 2 till 2,5 hours.
  • First came here in 2003. Is now much improved ....very good exhibits for dinsosaurs and human evolution. Good for all ages. Easy to find and get round. Well done
