Musee David et Alice van Buuren, Brussels
(4.6/5 based on 220+ reviews on the web)
Declared a National Heritage Site in 2001, Musee David et Alice van Buuren showcases an impressive collection of over five centuries of art housed within an Art Deco house. Wander the rooms filled with both masterpieces and lesser-known works by Vincent van Gogh, James Ensor, Pieter Jansz Saenredam, Rik Wouters, and many others. David van Buuren was the patron of the Belgian artist Gustave van de Woestijne, who showed his gratitude by contributing to the couple's collection. Almost every piece of decor and furniture have been designed by Belgian and Dutch artisans--note the carpets in the living room designed by Jaap Gidding, and a 500 kg (1,100 lb) chandelier by Jan Eisenloeffel. Don't miss the landscaped gardens with their hedges, trees, and walkways--works of art in and of themselves. You can reach the attraction by exiting the tram at Churchill in the Uccle District. The museum operates on a limited schedule, check for opening times before you arrive. Put Musee David et Alice van Buuren and other Brussels attractions into our Brussels family vacation planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • A very good example of bourgeois architecture of the beginning of the century (the twentieth). For a little one would expect see appear the mistress of the House, or one of his guests to move to the piano. Very beautiful installed simply works. The garden is also worth the visit.
