Jeanneke Pis, Brussels

2.0
A tougue-in-cheek counterpoint to the city's symbolic Manneken Pis statue, Jeanneke Pis depicts a young girl squatting and urinating. Erected in 1987 on a cul-de-sac down a narrow, less-travelled street, the statue is growing in popularity. If you've already snapped a few photos of the Manneken Pis (a centuries-old, centrally-located statue of a young boy urinating into a pool), consider snapping a photo, or two, of its female version to balance things out. You'll find the statue behind a cage near Rue des Bouchers in an alley. Make Jeanneke Pis a part of your Brussels vacation plans using our Brussels trip builder site .

  • Jeanneke Pis is located at the dead end near the Grand Place. But... unlike the Manneken Pis she didn't piss (in late February). Few people over there (not so promoted as Boy).  more »
  • Was made with the intention of what I don't know, but the original "Manneken Pis" humorous feel. And I'm on the other side of the fence.

  • Visiting the "boy" and decided to go off "girl". Without the navigation "girl" will not be easy to find, it is in some nooks and crannies, deadlocked among inexpensive cafes and bars. We found it only by application Maps. Next was crowded with some oldies, while viewing with interest the "girl" and joyously debating. Course grate extra here, but it is for protection from fans claiming monuments home. The girl turned out to be little more than a boy, but less interesting, because he's a star in Brussels, and it is so ... "on podpevkah" After a couple of minutes and after making a pair of photos, we have gone further.

  • Well what can somebody vsay about this place? It's a little strange that this two small statues are the "spirit" of the city. It's nice to visit them. This one is in a dead end oposite to some Belgian pubs with tons of beer. The statue itself is really low profile -somebody can even miss it- and it also protected from a fence that take it's beauty away. Still though something that deserves 5mina of your spare time and in the meanwhile you can go for a beer next to it.
  • The fountain was not running when we saw it. The statue is behind railings in a small alcove high up and is difficult to get a good photograph especially if there are a number of people there. Not as good as the Manekin-Pis.
  • A nice quirky statue which is the female version of the Mannekin Pis. It's tucked away on a small side street and when you get their it's behind a gate which obstructs the view. I understand why, because it would be stolen quickly if not. What a pity! It's good luck to throw a coin in the fountain and make a wish (didn't work for me... yet). There is a Space Invader from the French street artist on the adjacent wall.
  • Jeanneke-Pis is not more known than that of boy. The coins thrown in the fountain witness ypur faithfulness to the loved ones. You can just stay 2min and go other touristic sites.
  • My wife wanted to see all three of the 'Pis' statues and this was definitely the most disappointing. It's down a back alley of a pub and is locked away behind a thick iron grate. You would be lucky to get any sort of a decent photo even.
