Cantillon Brewery, Brussels

4.3
#1 of 6 in Breweries in Brussels
Try a family recipe for Iambic brews at Cantillon Brewery, where beer has been brewed since 1900. The family-owned brewery has made beer the same way since the early 20th century, except for the addition of organic ingredients in 1999. The lambic is Belgium's specialty beer, which uses uncontrolled fermentation from local yeast varieties. The beverage that this creates sometimes looks foggy and has a sweet, smooth flavor. Learn how three types of lambic are brewed: kriek, faro, and gueuze. Taste one, or all, after a brewery tour. Individual tours are available at any time throughout the day, and the small admission fee includes a free glass of beer. Additional glasses of beer cost a few extra euros. • There's not much to tell about the visit of the brewery, they give a quick speach and the rest is written on a brochure, besides the whole brewery is not so very big, but the upper floor with oaks is ...  more »
  • We chose the self guided tour as I like to move at my own pace. You are given a brief informative overview and then sent on your way with a packet explaining each room you are in labeled very clearly ...  more »

  • A great trip to the past, these guys use the same machines and process from ages ago. It is open for visitation, year round but the production only happens during the winter, since the cooling of the beer is done naturally.
  • This no frills brewery feels like taking a step back in time as they've done things roughly the same way for decades. Visit to enjoy a lovely self-guided tour, enjoy amazing bottles on site, and purchase bottles or swag for takeaway. This is certainly a destination and not in a fancy area of the city. Expect to meet sour beer lovers from all over the world!
  • Dragged myself out of bed while sick just to visit. A must for any beer lovers as the brewery and process are a literal history of beer making. Not your average IPAs or Lagers though, so to appreciate their product fully you should have some familiarity with Iambics or other sour beers.
  • World-famous brewery selling bottle pours and bottles to stay, and bottles to go. Limited selection but everything is fresh.
  • This place is like a beer history museum that you can get drunk at. The beer that you buy here is probably the closest thing that you can get to beer that was brewed in this area 100 years ago. They use the same equipment and styles that were used when they opened and the brewery is still operated by the same family. The grandson of the founder was at the brewery greeting people when we were there. If you're into beer culture it may not get more authentic than this anywhere else in the world. An absolute must see for anyone interested in the history of beer making.
