Jerusalem Chapel & Adornes Domain, Bruges

4.3
Step into the world of a wealthy pilgrim in Jerusalem Chapel & Adornes Domain, which dates back to the 15th century. Comissioned by a Christian pilgrim recently returned from Jerusalem, the church is full of dark carved wood lit by dim lights. The most famous piece in the chapel is the altar, adorned with skulls and ladders, which recalls an early era in Christianity. This same altar made an appearance in the film "In Bruges." Visit the museum attached to the church where you can read information plaques in English on the church's history, as well as a brief history on the city of Bruges. The church and museum are small and don't take long to tour. Arrange to visit Jerusalem Chapel & Adornes Domain and other attractions in Bruges using our Bruges itinerary builder app .

  • Away from the Center, this place will delight history buffs by the film which tells the story of the family of the owners as well as the originality of the place where the time stopped centuries ago... do not hesitate to make the detour!

  • do!!!, especially once no commercialism, and a real visit to medieval Bruges without fresh painting the Church is also possible, but especially the domain behind it is the trouble

  • Impressive private chapel of an Italian merchant family. Oldest intact preserved grave. Small museum. If you have reviewed the introduction movie have you actually visited the museum. Be fairly pricey.

  • A really nice chapel worth a visit! You can learn the entire story of how the chapel has been built and how the entire idea for it has started from a short film that you can see in one part of the museum. The other part is the chapel itself with plenty of backstory and interesting relics, like the splinter from Jesus's Cross.
  • Only recently opened to the public. The church is private property since the middle ages. Really nice interior, quite unusual. Be sure to visit the museum and see the short movie on Anselmus Adornes for some background.
  • This privately owned church and museum is rich with history that parallels the growth of Bruges itself. Beautifully maintained and fascinating history.
  • Very interesting tour as part of a holiday family organissee in the property. A big tip of the hat to Véronique de Limburg Stirum bringing This project.

  • Sorry, past, culture and mysticism. Be sure to visit the Jerusalem Chapel. Unwind in the Scottish lounge at a drink, and find out more about the time when Anselmus Adornes lived in the museum. Lovely place, a little beyond the paths but in the "real" Bruges.
