Historium Bruges, Bruges

3.5
#1 of 22 in Museums in Bruges
Immerse yourself in history at Historium Bruges, an experiential museum. An audio guide with a wide selection of languages brings you through the themed areas. The rooms represent different places in the city during different periods in time, from the Middle Ages to the city's golden age. Costumed interpreters, recreated shops, and domestic rooms all introduce you to the city's past. Learn how canals and quays fueled the development of the town, and how the economy generated from the waterways helped craftsmen and artists thrive. Visit a reconstructed old port and the painter Van Eyck in his studio. Some exhibits encourage visitors to interact with the story, while others ask you to enjoy the experience. A beer garden at the end of the tour is a great way to round out your visit. • Reconstructions are very well made and the film. However the story told is frankly devoid of any interest and especially does not tell us much about the medieval Bruges. A bluette to rose water... I expect information about life in Bruges in the middle ages. These are present, but after the "virtual" tour. I wish for. But there is a good effort to interest the children and younger and you can enjoy a nice view of the market place. And the written explanations are really in all languages and not only french, Dutch and English. Bravo for that.

  • An interactive museum where you on the basis of a love story a bit of an impression of life in Bruges around the 15th century. You're passing through different rooms by means of a time slot open. At last there is still a small exhibition about Bruges. From here you can also the balcony from which you have a beautiful view of the market. The latter can also from the in-house Duvelorium, the only duvelcafé in the world. The virtual reality tour on the end is highly recommended. Tip: combined ticket: entrance-virtual reality tour-consumption in Duvelorium.

  • I was here with my son very nicely done and surprising. But the price has it already. Quiet some time can go, was very interesting. We well liked and well worth anyway :-)

  • Really nicely done technology. A little childish in tone perhaps, but this 54 year old enjoyed it. The VR experience is also good
  • 15th Century Bruges is portrayed in a fictional story, displayed in several period decorated rooms with videos and an audio guide (in 10 languages). The experience is interesting but not quite worth the cost. However, the information there is presented clearly and accessibly. The panoramic terrace has a fantastic view of the Markt.
  • Creative way of telling the history of Brugge. I just wish there was more of the exhibit. Panoramic view of the Markt is beautiful. The VR Experience was soooo cool and fun. We liked it. A must-do in Brugge
  • You're paying for bells and whistles rather than a real museum. It might keep the attention of younger people, but I saw kids ignoring the presentation. It's a bit over-priced and there is some gratuitous nudity. I get much more out of a traditional museum.
  • Duvelorium is a great place for a beer and some cheese, with an amazing view of the main square. It's on the second floor of the Historium. You don't have to pay for entrance to the Historium to get in - just head up the stairs. Very enjoyable break from our time wandering the city.
