Folklore Museum, Bruges

4.2
#8 of 20 in Museums in Bruges
Housed inside a row of 17th-century single-room houses, Folklore Museum showcases everyday life in 19th- and 20th-century Bruges. Inside the houses you walk through a classroom, pharmacy, millinery, grocery, and bedroom. Each space is decorated with pieces collected from all over the city in an attempt to recreate authentic environments. In good weather, you can play traditional folk games on one of the terraces and in the internal garden. Every room is full of artifacts, such as hand-carved pipes and tobacco paraphernalia, so take your time investigating. Another highlight is the lace exhibit in the attic. Purchase tickets upon arrival and begin your self-guided tour. If the attraction is crowded, you may have to shuffle through with a group along designated pathways through the museum's interior, but you can use any delay as an opportunity to photograph favorite displays. Put Folklore Museum into our Bruges trip planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • What a gem this museum. We had a guide who showed us a part. The bunker of the first world war. Impressive to even get into. And then the story of Sinterklaas & Zwarte Piet, the displayed attributes of John Massis, visit the dentist, visit to the Barber, ... View all of in the past. Fascinating to see how the people lived and how resourceful people were. The Guide could very well tell with anecdotes and tidbits. But you come here eyes too short. Also the toilet is a must! All spells on the wall. The authentic café also has its charms. The jukebox is working yet and you can choose your own images so feel free to. An absolute must for young & old! We will definitely be back to explore the rest of the museum.
