4.3/5 based on 2,200+ reviews on the web
Enjoy the tranquillity of Beguinage (Begijnhof), a religious community seemingly frozen in time. This particular beguinage was founded in 1245 and housed the beguines of Bruges up until 1937. Today, the community is a monastery for Benedictine nuns. At a time when official religious institutions distrusted the new religious orders coming into being, a beguine was a safe community where female followers lived together, much like nuns but without the strict vows. Take a quiet stroll through the streets past rows of identical white homes. Wander to the southern end, where some of the houses date back to the 15th and 16th centuries. In the left corner behind the garden, you'll find the largest house, which would have housed the grand dame. • An enclave of serenity in the city. Inside church without architectural interest. The beguines (Dear sister) are still living in such homes. Free entry.

  • Just beautiful! A real 'beguines' community, very peaceful with pretty small cottages! Go and relax!
  • A lovely, authentic 'beguines' community area that is told to be still in use. Pretty little white cottages and a tranquil atmosphere, great for marriage pictures ;) but stay of the grass and 😯 be quite :)
  • Beautiful, quiet and worth to be see.
  • Begijnhof — Beguinage, by 1998 was admitted in the Unesco World Heritage list. One of the main places to visit in Bruges, the Flemish white houses with red roofs surrounding a small wooded park with lawn full of daffodils. Place of peace and silence.

  • This place goes for being one of the most interesting points of Bruges - all the Beginjhof of Belgium have managed heritage rating by UNESCO. However it remains a contradiction a place dedicated to meditation and prayer to present a continuous traffic of tourists and that, to see the center of prayer, is to spend a few euros. I think it has more historic tourist. Even so, not come you badly if you give him a cultural use.
