  • I am only rating this as poor at the moment because they are digging it up. They are making it more family friendly with grass and treet. The lovely fountains are to be moved nearby.  more »
  • 'T Zand of Bruges is a very big place, close to the downtown streets. There are different activities by on 'T Zand, such as the weekly Saturday market, but also fairs and other activities. Currently they are 'T Zand completely renovating and there are a lot of work in progress, still take a while for this well known place completely will be ready. Under the Sand there is a very large paying car park.

  • Our route took us over to the large fountain on ´ Zand. Four bronze statues of women between the stately pillars symbolize the Flemish cities of Bruges, Ghent, Ieper and Kortrijk. Till Eulenspiegel is sitting on another pillar and Damme looks towards the city of his birth. The underlying group of fishermen reminiscent of the traditional connection of Bruges with the North Sea. Bruges came to remarkable prosperity through maritime trade in the middle ages. And finally the cyclists. They symbolize the most popular means of transport in Flanders - the bicycle. :-) Featured recommendation not only during daylight hours, this fountain. He is illuminated in the evening and also a feast for the eye.
