Chateau d'Attre, Brugelette
(4.4/5 based on 25 reviews on the web)
Attre Castle is a former castle, now a country house or château, in Attre in the municipality of Brugelette, province of Hainaut, Belgium.HistoryThe present château at Attre was built in the middle of the 18th century by Count François Philippe Franeau d’Hyon van Gomegnies, on the foundations of a mediaeval castle that had been in the hands of the family since 1520. The structural work was finished in 1752, and Count François died shortly after in 1755. His son François Ferdinand Franeau d’Hyon continued the work of his father and saw to it that the interior decorations were finished. It took more than 30 years before the interior was completely decorated. The present building is in a Neo-Classical style and the interiors are French, mainly Louis Quinze. In addition to the landscaped garden and the forest park, it is home to several melancholic "follies", such as the Belvédère tower ruins, the 15th century dovecote, the hermitage, the Vignou tower, the Swiss chalet, the bath pavilion, "le Rocher", an artificial cave.Sources Belgian Castles: Attre park of Attre Castle Belgian Tourist office Wallonia Brussels

  • The visit is done with a guide, guide who makes the very interesting visit with its small anecdotes.

  • Very beautiful park to visit on a sunny day. Well maintained, clean and very pleasant. Too bad we can't take pictures of the inside of the Castle.

  • Bad option trying to visit this castle. Very poorly maintained. No gardens at all. The photos here in Google are misleading. The lady tried to sell us tickets to see nothing else you can see from the street (a falling down building) , because the place is actually closed. There's no signs at all explaining how visiting works.
  • Beautiful castle and amazing park.
  • My family and I saw this chateau in 1975 when we lived in Masnuy St. Pierre and went out for a ride one day. I was so impressed with the grounds and the structure that I remember all of it fondly. I finally went on-line to see if I could find it and, low and behold, there it is! If I ever find the pictures that we took of it I will post them on here. Tony Prozzoly
  • Very interesting guided by the hostess of the places, they are marked by history and yet simplicity reigns. We had too little time to explore the garden, do it this is not an opportunity to return to these places?
