Dit hoort bij onze Belgische geschiedenis. De gruweldaden die nog niet zo lang geleden gebeurden en ook niet veraf waren, stemt je tot nadenken. Hoe slecht kan een mens zijn? How can you make the lives of others as acidic? This is a proof of all time. This would also be required for our youth. That this must never happen again. It is apparently the best kept camp in Europe. We had a personal guide and this was really a surplus value.show original
For the dark place that it once was, Fort Breendonk is quite the historical place. Well organized and easy to walk around. The reenactments are on point and the information is very complete. We spent ... read more »

Very interesting place if you want to learn about history
Google's definition of "Loved it" as a rating doesn't quite accurately describe how I feel about this place. "Hated it" is probably more accurate, but I can't express that I hated it and give it 5/5 stars at the same time. I've been here twice now, and both times I've felt like this is an important site that everyone needs to visit, and with the audio guide you'll probably end up doing the site in silence. Perhaps the audio tour has become a little long-winded as the museum has grown, and by the end of the tour once you return to the visitor centre you might find yourself suffering information overload and an overwhelming sense of despair to the point where you won't want to go through what happened after the liberation of Belgium, the Mechelen trials, and so forth. Stick with it, get what you can out of it, because the characters introduced on the tour paint a picture of the most horrible period of our recent history. You'll only need to come once, but you need to come.
Fio PPoignant and oppressive at the same time! One is reminded of this place in every minute of their stay on the borders of humanity, human rights and justice. The question arises: why do to 'People' other people such atrocities? Breendonk stimulates thinking and provides informative and exciting way where racism, mass euphoria, cost of power positions, etc. can lead. Insert the headphone (audio guide more relaxed leadership) and much time each contribution schedule, worthwhile!show original
