  • This camp was one of the last on our two-week tour of Europe and we're so glad we made time to visit. It is dark, and scary, and the walls practically ooze sadness and despair...but we felt it was imp...  more »
  • Situated near the A12 motorway it is a must to visit this concentration camp. You get an impression of how the past has been at the time of war. After you visit there near the camp a good tavern where you can drink something or even very good food.

  • This fort you just visited! The atmosphere is really indescribable. You just get quiet all the horror that occurred there. The Fort Breendonk is a Belgian fort in Willebroek that during the second world war was used by the Nazis as a work-and transit camp. It is the also the only camp in Western Europe that remained completely intact.

  • Fort Breendonk is one of the best forts to visit in Belgium for any historian or history enthusiast interested in WWI and WWII. Most of the fort is still in the same condition, walking through the fort is the closest one will get to what it might have been like to be there way back when. Overall an excellent place to visit.
  • Sobering reality of how the World responded to a group of unloved people. May we never again...
  • i have been here twice??? 1975 1980.this one place, set me off on a 35 year journey across europe and the med?the list is endless,i was at the IWM in london the other day and this place was photo:d and other places i:ve seen??? i still feel a stench i my nostrils and guts??? i recommend this place as your first journey into dantes inferno
  • Google's definition of "Loved it" as a rating doesn't quite accurately describe how I feel about this place. "Hated it" is probably more accurate, but I can't express that I hated it and give it 5/5 stars at the same time. I've been here twice now, and both times I've felt like this is an important site that everyone needs to visit, and with the audio guide you'll probably end up doing the site in silence. Perhaps the audio tour has become a little long-winded as the museum has grown, and by the end of the tour once you return to the visitor centre you might find yourself suffering information overload and an overwhelming sense of despair to the point where you won't want to go through what happened after the liberation of Belgium, the Mechelen trials, and so forth. Stick with it, get what you can out of it, because the characters introduced on the tour paint a picture of the most horrible period of our recent history. You'll only need to come once, but you need to come.
  • Very interesting place if you want to learn about history
