Cogels Osylei, Antwerp

(4.7/5 based on 400+ reviews on the web)
Keep your camera ready when you stroll Cogels Osylei, a street full of architectural gems from the 19th and 20th centuries. The Beaux-Arts, Art Nouveau, and eclectic styles are well represented in the red brick and white facades. The narrow balconies and ornate window casings give the street a stately ambiance. Look up and fix your eyes on the widow's walks and upper terraces, where you may spot a statue of Humphrey Bogart smoking near an iron balustrade. Many of the buildings are residential and can only be viewed from outside. Take the number four tram and purchase a ticket from the driver to reach the street and save your energy for walking. Plan your visit to Cogels Osylei and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Antwerp itinerary builder.

  • This is an amazing street, with beatiful buildings. Since they are still used for private families, don't think you will enter and visit these houses. But the side is wonderful and full of variety!
  • The Cogels Osylei was the outdoor area of the city. The rich bourgeoisie put there very nice houses and down. Walking on this slate and enjoy the houses. Am definitely going out the side streets on visit because there are also jewels of homes. Do it best in company of a city guide, there is so much to tell about. The homes are all occupied and the owners are still close to revalue and the houses to fix it up. The houses themselves are not open to the public.

  • It is a beautiful, I recommend that you a visited time or before to seek a web that there are (although this in Dutch) in which this listed each building and explains its history.

  • Very high society area! Beautiful old architecture
  • Talking about architecture... it's a slightly insane street to walk though... living around the corner I used to enjoy late night strolls there. Definitely the prettiest street in Antwerp.
  • Beautiful street with some nice historical buildings. It is really expensive to buy a house here but we can always dream. 😊
  • Beautiful extra-ordinary street! Be sure to stay for drinks at dageraadplaats and draakplaats right at the end of the Cogels Osylei!
  • When visiting Antwerpen for its architecture, be sure to visit the Cogels Osylei. The houses here are extraordinary and very well preserved. Every house has it's own tale to tell.
