Cathedral of Our Lady, Antwerp

Church · Tourist Spot
Stand in wonder at the delicately carved reliefs and statuary of the iconic, yet incomplete, Cathedral of Our Lady. The cathedral's single Gothic spire pierces the sky at 123 m (404 ft); plans to build a matching partner were never realized. The cathedral played an important role in the development of choral music, with some of the 15th-century masters making their home here as vicars. Consider attending a concert in the chapel to experience the sounds that inspired an entire generation of musicians. Be sure to check out the Rubens painting housed inside; it was returned to its place after World War II. • The cathedral was unfortunately closed for public on 19-20 September 2020, corona prevention measures. So I could only watch it from the outside. Only church attendance was allowed.  more »
  • I love visiting Cathedrals, and this is 1 of my favourites. The outside is just as glorious as the inside. If you are feeling it, you can also go to Mass on Sunday, with pamphlets is various...  more »
  • The Cathedral of Our Lady is also known as the Cathedral of Antwerp. It dominates the Grote Markt area. We got to it after traversing the Vlaeykensgang which is one of the only medieval streets left.....  more »
  • Most beautiful cathedral of the lowlands. One of the younger Gothic churches so therefore allows for lots of light to enter. Two stunning Rubens paintings are the icing on the cake.
  • Great historical building facing a plaza. Was sunny when visiting, managed to take nice pictures. Definitely worth a visit.
  • Amazing mirror paint work. Craft work is attractive. But one must look at the rusted green statues just outside the church (I don't want to reveal the surprise you see there). Also the white marble sleeping boy statue under the tiles.
  • Fabulous. One of the most impressive cathedrals you could hope to visit, not just for the stunning architecture but the collection of paintings, sculptures and carvings are incredible. And the Rubens masterpieces 😮 Brilliant. Worth getting here as close to opening as you can manage; it gets a little busy, as you can imagine...
  • Fantastic. The height of the spire was truly inspiring, though unfortunately under renovation when I was there. Inside there the architecture is amazing with multiple paintings from Rubens as the icing. Worth a visit
