Cathedral of Our Lady, Antwerp

(4.5/5 based on 2,000+ reviews on the web)
Stand in wonder at the delicately carved reliefs and statuary of the iconic, yet incomplete, Cathedral of Our Lady. The cathedral's single Gothic spire pierces the sky at 123 m (404 ft); plans to build a matching partner were never realized. The cathedral played an important role in the development of choral music, with some of the 15th-century masters making their home here as vicars. Consider attending a concert in the chapel to experience the sounds that inspired an entire generation of musicians. Be sure to check out the Rubens painting housed inside; it was returned to its place after World War II. • If at one time me once and for all struck Milan Duomo with its appearance, the Cathedral of our Lady, located in the heart of Antwerp conquered their internal filling, including interiors, crypt and wonderful paintings. This is the Catholic Cathedral, built in a Gothic style, was directed skyward, seeming weightless Tower from afar with the Golden hours, literally blinding gold glitter in bright day, is seen well in advance of the approach to the Cathedral, almost from anywhere in Antwerp. Tower height more than 100 metres, resembling a graceful flare, even by itself is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture. The tower is crowned by an octagonal superstructure with a cross which is lost somewhere at the top and bottom on the sky background seems fine needle. The entrance to the Cathedral of our Lady is charged-6 euro per adult, 4 euro for students who are over 60 and groups; children under 12-free entrance. I advise you not to feel sorry for 6 euro and go inside-it's worth it! The Interior of the Cathedral is huge. Spending to crawl more hours-too many items, which account for a long time to stop and consider the finest details, even 40 minutes sitting on a Chair in the middle of the Hall, admiring the interiors and the grandeur of the Cathedral. Speaking of decoration, do not even know where to start-so here are all admirable. Probably mixing up the interiors of different styles such as Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque, which surprisingly harmoniously among themselves, make the interior space, not like all cathedrals I've seen before. The combination of simultaneously and solemn severity and dazzling elegance make this place memorable. The Cathedral has a very beautiful dark pulpit, it seems, with an infinite number of cut pieces. With matchless skill carved figurines of birds, trees with branches and so on. The Department is so striking in its execution that is hard to believe that it is generally a man. If the Cathedral is a real jewel of Antwerp, the Pearl of the Cathedral itself, in my opinion, this is a picture of the great artist Rubens. First of all, I conquered "exaltation of the cross" and "the descent from the cross". Yes, I saw them before this illustration, but stand next to these huge triptihami, admiring their artistry is quite different and it really captures. You can endlessly writing about the altar, the beautiful stained glass Windows, and the crypt, which I recommend to go down is interesting in its own way; I finally learned how to look inside the crypts (good, bones and remains there), but I want to say a few words about kapellah Cathedral. A lot of them. Each of them resembles a small ornate room. No a cappella is not like another. Summing up, not thinking what happens is such a great tip-but the Cathedral of our Lady, not just like me-he had me smitten. Recommend to visit no. 1 in Antwerp.

  • An incredible cathedral. Must see.
  • Unfortunately I couldn't go inside, but it was still completely worth taking a look from outside.
  • Beautiful gothic style cathedral with magnificent spires. Still in great shape.
  • One of the main sights in the city. Worth the price of admission just for the beautiful painting by Rubens which is hanging at the back alone.
  • Great from out side. Love this building. In my opinion one of the best in Europe. Have not seen antwerp if u don't see this. Best view is from the pier by the river. Enjoy
