Cathedral of Our Lady, Antwerp

(2,000+ reviews on the web)
Religious Site
Stand in wonder at the delicately carved reliefs and statuary of the iconic, yet incomplete, Cathedral of Our Lady. The cathedral's single Gothic spire pierces the sky at 123 m (404 ft); plans to build a matching partner were never realized. The cathedral played an important role in the development of choral music, with some of the 15th-century masters making their home here as vicars. Consider attending a concert in the chapel to experience the sounds that inspired an entire generation of musicians. Be sure to check out the Rubens painting housed inside; it was returned to its place after World War II. • I have already visited many cathedrals abroad, such as the dom in Cologne and the Cathedral of San Salvador where the tomb of Oscar Romero, but surely the Cathedral of Antwerp will come to me in the top 5. Because we as Antwerp remain modest, I place them on the first place, but still..............

  • The pride of Antwerp is the largest Gothic church of the Netherlands. She was completed in 1521, after about 170 years. Its North Tower (123 m), a ' lace in stone ', still controlled the skyline. Brings in the expanding space you into another dimension. What we see today, is partly Baroque, partly neo-Gothic (from the 19th century). Four works of Peter Paul Rubens are there to admire, including the raising of the cross and the descent from the cross, heritage of global proportions. There are many other works of art, furniture, stained-glass Windows, ...

  • Highly recommended, you can use the smallest tower to the huge attic of the Cathedral and still some places where otherwise you do not.

  • An incredible cathedral. Must see.
  • Unfortunately I couldn't go inside, but it was still completely worth taking a look from outside.
  • Beautiful gothic style cathedral with magnificent spires. Still in great shape.
  • One of the main sights in the city. Worth the price of admission just for the beautiful painting by Rubens which is hanging at the back alone.
  • Great from out side. Love this building. In my opinion one of the best in Europe. Have not seen antwerp if u don't see this. Best view is from the pier by the river. Enjoy
