Antwerp's Port, Antwerp

3.9
#3 of 11 in Historic Sites in Antwerp
Pier / Boardwalk Historic Walking Area
Visit Antwerp's Port to see one of Europe's busiest ports. Second only to Rotterdam's port in the total freight shipped per year, this hub bustles year-round. Tour the area by walking along the promenade near the docking stations. The port is just a hop, skip, and a jump from the city's main shopping district. If you're stopping here on a cruise, you'll be able to tour this district and maybe even grab some fresh seafood near the water. Consider a visit to the engineering museum located on the port, where you'll learn about the important economic role the attraction has played in the city's history. Make Antwerp's Port a centerpiece of your Antwerp vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Antwerp trip itinerary maker.

Where to stay in Antwerp

Many visitors to Antwerp choose to stay in the Oude Stad neighborhood, which offers accommodations with character. The city features a wide range of lodging options including budget hostels, bed and breakfasts, private apartments, and luxury hotels. To score discounts on weekends, check out hotel chains on the city's outskirts, which cater to business travelers during the week. The area around Antwerp's central station offers the most choices. When in doubt, check in with the city's tourism bureau, which maintains a list of the best lodging prices and can make reservations for you.

  • A lovely city well served by trams frequently transversing the city streets. We stopped at the port whilst on a cruise visiting Antwerp, Rouen and Le Harve. Antwerp was by far the best of the bunch. W...  more »
  • We took this walk to see the port and river. The views were breathtaking. We could see all of Antwerp in one panoramic view. The walk is level and easy to do. Our 80 year old Aunt had no trouble walki...  more »
  • For me it wasn't something special. No huge boats, no even small boats. Nothing. Just a promenade to walk, but for me it also seemed dull.  more »
