Antwerp Zoo (Dierentuin), Antwerp

(3.6/5 based on 1,400+ reviews on the web)
View animal habitats as 19th-century travelers did at Antwerp Zoo (Dierentuin), the oldest zoo in the country. Established in 1843, the zoo originally reflected director Jacques Kets' vision to promote the zoological and botanical sciences. Over the years the attraction added primates, African species, and a sampling of animals from almost every environment. In the 20th century, the zoo was updated with larger habitats that mimic the animal's home. Hippos, penguins, sea lions, and elephants all have public feeding times; pick up a printed schedule of feedings and caretaker chats from the ticket kiosk. To keep you energized, there are two sit-down restaurants and picnic areas where you can enjoy your own lunch. Purchase tickets onsite or online. Visit the zoo's website for seasonal ticket promotions. Free wheelchairs and special tours for visitors with decreased mobility are available upon request. • A fun trip with children combine with a trip to Antwerp. The Zoo is good for a 2 hours and there it stops then, quite out of date.

  • More than half a day in this zoo. Many types of animals on a relatively small area. Beautiful night (so far one of the most beautiful for me) and monkey cages. We were fortunate that the koalas were awake and well. Side note: many components were close because of the bird flu, there were no butterflies in the butterfly garden and there was much rebuilt. This was not told in advance, which we appreciated.

  • Great zoo, a good and beautiful walk to do with family or lovers. many animals to discover various "show" for the feeding of the animals.
