Uspensky Cathedral, Vitebsk

(4.9/5 based on 110+ reviews on the web)
See the biggest bell in Belarus, weighing 4,716 kg (5.2 tons), in a belfry of Uspensky Cathedral. The first cathedral was erected in the 18th century on the site of a smaller church and much earlier pagan shrine. It was destroyed and rebuilt many times. Climb to the observation deck to get an aerial view of the city. On the north wall of the cathedral, you'll discover a memorial plate dedicated to people whose remains were found on site during the restoration works. They were most likely victims of the Soviet secret police or the Gestapo. The remains are buried near the church. Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus consecrated the new cathedral in 2011. • Svyato-uspensky Cathedral-restored building blown up instead. Perhaps the icon not as namolennye as it would be possible, but were there Sunday morning proshhjonogo Sunday, before the beginning of lent. The atmosphere of unity. The service collects not so many parishioners, as it happens in cathedrals, but because how people pray, feels that it is not zahozhane. Hallowed your name.

  • It's big, it's impressive. It's also nice. Not so old and a bit over pompous, with huge and absolutely people unfriendly stairs But if you are in the center... why not? Good spot for picture to be mad...  more »
