At Holy Spirit Cathedral, see the miraculous icon of Theotokos, which purportedly appeared on a riverbank in 1500. The cathedral was originally erected as a part of a Bernardine monastery in the 17th century. Notice the golden-blue image of the Holy Virgin on its white front exterior, flanked by two tall bell towers. Allegedly, part of the church served as a transit prison for evicted kulaks, and the building also served as a gym and an archive.
