Halshany or Holszany Castle is the ruined residence of the Sapieha magnate family in Halshany, Hrodna Voblast, Belarus and was the seat of the one of the largest land estates in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Paweł Stefan Sapieha commissioned its construction and it was erected circa 1610 to replace the older castle, built by of the Holszanski princely family, of whom Sapiehas were descendants and heirs. Also known as the Black Castle, the residence formerly rivaled Mir Castle as the most elegant private château of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The name Black Castle in fact originally applies to a fictional building from a book by Uladzimir Karatkievich, which was loosely based on Halshany Castle. The castle and the surrounding estates were devastated, robbed and looted, twice: by the invading Swedes troops during the Deluge and during the Great Northern War in 1704. Due to financial stress experienced by the Sapiehas in the wake of the Domestic War and ongoing Great Northern War, the castle had never been fully restored.Make Halshany Castle a part of your Halsany vacation plans using our Halsany trip itinerary planning website .

Halshany got Sapega in the first half of the 16th century as a dowry the last Duchess-of-a-kind Golshan. The castle is named after the owners, not by name but by location. Outwardly represented almost the correct quadrilateral, which crowned a trjohurovnevye hexagonal towers. In the north-eastern part of right in the middle of the residential Corps was an entry gate, across from which stood a chapel forming a single whole Palace. After his death, Paul Sapieha left no direct heirs to the same managed to amass a lot of debt because of what ownership olshanski was divided among creditors. During the great northern war the castle was partly damaged, but part of him remained residential. Even by the middle of the 19th century it was broken up on the third floor and brick built a tavern. Chapel no longer functioned and was converted into a warehouse. Before the first world war people lived more in the Castle, and after the great patriotic war the remains of dwellings were finally dismantled for building the necessary local kolkhoz pigpens and House of culture. Now here is an annual Festival "Olshanski Castle»
Сразу скажу, что это еще не отреставрированный замок, а его развалины и это делает его особенно интересным. Можно увидеть его в первоначальном виде, остатки камина, лестницы, стены, пол. Эти развалины... more »I must say that it has not yet restored the Castle and its ruins and this makes it especially interesting. You can see it in its original form, the remains of fireplaces, stairs, walls, floor. These ruins we liked much more than restored Castle. In Golshantskom Castle left some unusual atmosphere of yore.
Кусочек старины, сохранившейся до наших дней. Вообще очень интересное место, на данный момент ещё не отреставрирован и погружает в атмосферу прошлого. Very beautiful place. At the moment it is fenced. Thought I was going to have to look through the mesh, but a little forward-there is Laz. Judging by the fact that visible -1 floor, I dare suggest that the Castle a bit so's gone down. Some time ago was about to restore it, but decided not to touch because restoration would kill the authenticity of the Castle. Inside the Castle gradually collapses, as evidenced by the crumbled bricks among the photo there is a stone with a circular recess, can anyone knows what is behind it?
Read the legends about the castle itself, as well as the monastery and go to this place. Here is very interesting. On the ruins of the Castle be careful.
Thanks to this site met with the book and film "Black Castle olshansky. Castle in deplorable condition. Look not at that. Unless imagine grandeur.
Very beautiful place! Perfectly suitable for photo shoots. Was at work, decided that you want to check. Not sorry! If you have a free minute-be sure to visit this place. Touch history. Until there came to eat in a very cute Cafe. There I was told that 2017 April-20 May near the castle of Sofia Golshanskoj Festival. Plan to take a trip with her husband, already show him this beauty!))))
The castle is impressive, you can call it a Palace. The interesting thing is that the current level of the Earth is at its historic 2-nd floor, i.e. you need to remove the 2 meter ground to the castle appeared in all its splendor, and restore. Inside some remains of spiral staircases and fireplaces.
