On the battlefields of Memorial Complex Brest Hero Fortress, see the monumental sculptures that tell the story of the site's legendary heroes. The complex commemorates the Soviet resistance against the German invasion on June 22, 1941. You'll enter through a five-pointed star cut in the front entrance. Go to the east part of the citadel and walk among the remains of one of the last stone buildings of the 19th-century fortress. View the 54 m (177 ft) wide and more than 30 m (98 ft) high main monument--a sculpture of a warrior with a banner. The complex entered the World Heritage Tentative List in 2004. Driving Moscow Avenue to the Brest fortress, turn right and then right to left break (enter the parking there). Parking is great, free enough space. Free entrance to the fortress. Museums for a fee. In the information paragraph were extremely surprised my request "to provide a map of the memorial complex". In response to my request answered that no cards and never was and offered to buy a stake in the street in souvenir shops. It's fair to say that on the territory of the complex there are several steles with a map object and illustration of your location, but it's not very convenient, because the area of the complex is large enough. Everywhere is clean, grandiosely, sad ... Ruins of the fortress are destroyed. If not go to a museum complex on the review -2 1.5 hours away. Museum of "peace" on Tuesday does not work.

Traveled with children 13 and 5.5. Me and my husband really liked it, for us it is a monument to war history of our grandfathers. Children are a bit far from that, were born and raised in another country. But listened to and in my little grasp. The Museum took the audio tour guides. Very interesting facts and history, but 20 minutes to children through tired because a lot of things they didn't understand. Lacked a concise and comprehensible to children, but we tried as best we could explain. Be sure to visit!

Earlier in the morning, about seven. ... At this time you can see already a lot of visitors, strolling on clean tracks fortress and considering with interest monuments or simply ljubujushhihsja the silence and nature. Everything here is unusual, as if traveling in those early years, I told my grandmother ... June 22, 1941 Goda 4.15 am. You can get many impressions from visiting this historic site: excellent museums, monuments ... You can simply relax and enjoy the soul walks ... My dream (as currently live in another country) get in the Brest fortress, on this day and in this night. When history repeats itself. Thanks to the leadership of our city for historical reconstruction, which takes place every year. Thanks, that our generation has the opportunity to remember and honour the memory of our ancestors.

Church in the fortress is amazing. Don't mind its renovated exterior - just step inside. You'll be surprised. Memorial itself is a great example of soviet monumental memorial complexes.

This place become a place for tourists, the spirit of war disappears and just "good red army" lasts. Before it was a good place to show what war makes to people and with people, now just tourist attraction.

Its history is more impressive than its architectural beauty. Thanks to my local guide Vadim, I learnt a lot about its history. Love the comment that "nazi takes photos of everything they do, including crime". Soviet style sculptures are equally impressive. Nearby there's the border of Belarus and Poland. Funny that it fascinates me as I've never been to a controlled border.

Too much pride, typical communist style. Loud words about the "great victory" everywhere. Dear Mr Lukashenko, put an end to the communism at last and move your country towards the Western world. No info in English, difficult to understand how to cross the road to head towards the city (it's under the bridge but it's impossible to spot it)

You can still see the bullet marks on the walls from World War 2. Amazing place. On the National Holiday, you can hear soldiers shooting their rifles. It makes you feel that horrific atmosphere of the war a bit.

Where to stay in Brest

While the city of Brest is still sizeable, it does'nt boast the abundance of accommodations that its big brother, Minsk, does. While lodging type is more or less limited to hotels, they vary in price and offerings. Hostels and a guesthouse or two provide some budget accommodation in and near the center. Most hotels and hostels will arrange to register you as a foreigner with the police. If you rent an apartment-style accommodation, make sure to check in advance whether or not your host will do so. Without registration, you can stay in Belarus for only five business days.
