Historic Site Tourist Spot
Experience some Barbadian horse racing at Garrison Savannah, known internationally for hosting the Barbados Gold Cup. Horse racing on the historic savannah has taken place since 1845, when members of the British Regiment used the area to match their own horses. The club, established in 1905, has since developed into a 6 furlong (1,207 m) vibrant green track surrounded by bustling spectator stands. Refresh yourself with cold coconut water accompanied by pudding and souse, then head into the lively crowds to place a bet and feel the thrill of the race. • It was a great experience. We enjoyed it and it was Barbados style horse racing. The horses are well looked after. It was amazing to have the starter to sit next to me and ask me to ask the jockeys to...  more »
  • Visit the Garrison on a Thursday at 12pm to see the changing of the guards. It is very interesting but take a hat as it's hot. We had a delay of about half an hour as the guns had to be delivered from...  more »
  • If there is a meeting on when you visit, make a point of going. Its a cheap day out if you limit your stake (!) and just go with the locals flow. Its a super experience and a must in a Bajan itinerary...  more »

  • Truly a very pleasing location, lots of historical significance in an area that is still modern and actively used. Nice to see this on a small island like Barbados ... Always a must see and appreciate. Catch the place on race day or just pass later for a quiet exploration.
  • New monument in place, good racing facilities and a playpark for children but more can be done to improve the aesthetics.
  • Nice place to exercise, not much seating in the shade.
  • Excellent place to chill, relax and drink a beer
  • We went here for the horse racing. It wasn't expensive and we had a really good view.
