Garrison Savannah, Bridgetown

Historic Site · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
Experience some Barbadian horse racing at Garrison Savannah, known internationally for hosting the Barbados Gold Cup. Horse racing on the historic savannah has taken place since 1845, when members of the British Regiment used the area to match their own horses. The club, established in 1905, has since developed into a 6 furlong (1,207 m) vibrant green track surrounded by bustling spectator stands. Refresh yourself with cold coconut water accompanied by pudding and souse, then head into the lively crowds to place a bet and feel the thrill of the race. • We love going to the races in Barbados. It’s basic when you get in but cheap in comparison to the UK. Pay a bit more and go in the stand, here you will get a better view and access to a good bar. We....  more »

  • A leftover ceremony from the commonwealth days. Volunteers in amazing uniforms parade & march to drums & trumpets. Every Thursday at 12noon. Walk a little further and visit George Washington house, the only US president to visit Barbados. Then make your way to the gorgeous little Italian coffee/cafe for drinks & snacks. A lovely couple of hours.
  • Great horse park. It was closed at the time. Vast, lush green feilds with the Barbados flag waving in the wind.
  • Memories, History, Excitement and Thrills all jam packed into one place... I've smiled, cried and felt proud coming here over the years and let me tell you day πŸ“Έβ˜€οΈ is very much different to at night πŸ”¦πŸŒ™
  • Boasting as one of the most visited historic landmarks thoughout Barbados, this location and it surrounding areas is where George Washington himself visited and stayed for some time. Definately a must see for all visitors.
  • Very informal and spectators can walk off the street and visit the winners enclosure on normal race days. Betting is down to earth.
